Analysis – A Rose for Emily
Understanding the thematic relationship between different characters in the story is essential for any reader. It allows him to gain a deeper insight into the narrative through an appreciation of the character’s personality based on his backstory. Accordingly, I would like to focus on ‘Emily’ in Faulkner’s novel entitled A Rose for Emily. Although a quick glance of Emily’s character would give the readers an idea about her sins, a closer look at her upbringing would also show that her character was due to her previous experiences. All in all, I believe that despite being a villain or victimizer, Emily’s deeds were brought about by her years of becoming the victim.
Emily’s Story
The main plot of the novel A Rose for Emily revolves around the narrator’s recollection of Emily’s past. It was shown that as a young woman, Emily was prevented by her own father to marry. However, as her father died and left her, Emily started to act mysteriously as she was left all alone by herself. Interestingly, rather than looking at her actions suspiciously, the townspeople attributed her acts as a ‘coping mechanism’ as she grieves for her own father. However, as the story concludes, the readers would find out that Emily killed her romantic partner Homer Barron and had slept with his corpse for a long time as she tried to preserve the memories of her past.
The Victim and the Victimizer
In line with Emily’s story, I believe that Emily is both a victim and a victimizer. This is because, despite her own evil deeds, it was because of the surrounding circumstances that made her who she was.
On the one hand, Emily is a victimizer for the strong possibility that she took advantage of Barron and murdered him. Before Barron’s act of “moving away from the town” (as believed by the townspeople), he and Emily seemed to have a friendly and romantic relationship with one another. Barron seemed to care for Emily in such a way that no other member of their society had. This evidenced that there were trust and love (whether friendly or romantic) between these two characters. However, as would be seen further in the story, Emily took advantage of this trust and prevented Barron from leaving him by killing him and ‘living’ with his corpse the whole time before she died (Faulkner). Although it was not explicitly mentioned that she murdered Barron herself, her guild could be inferred, not only due to their relationship and the presence of the latter’s corpse in her own bedroom but also in her preparatory acts. This includes her act of purchasing arsenic, inviting the victim to their house, and the rotting smell in her home while she was still living.

Write an essay of at least 450 words using 12 point font and double-spaced text) comparing the formal treatment and iconography of each work. Be sure to identify each object by indicating the artist, title, and date of production. Your essay should address how similarities and differences contribute to your understanding of each work’s meaning or artistic significance. You should analyze these points: stylistic choices (e.g., abstract, naturalistic, idealistic, realistic), function or symbolism of the pieces (What were they used for? Do they communicate a message? Are they sacred or secular works of art), cultural context (e.g., how might the way of life at the time and place the pieces were created affected their function and style? Do historical events relate to the image or story depicted?). In addition, I expect you to refer to the course readings, including the primary readings I uploaded to BlackBoard, in the essays. You must cite at least one source that is not our text book.
Use Chicago-Turabian style notation for any sources that you need to document as references in footnotes. Double-space your text and list your name and the date in the header on the first page. In almost all cases, you should italicize the title of a work of art. Consult the Chicago-Turabian sample essay I provided you for more information concerning formatting. Instructions: Assignment 1: The Annotated Bibliography – Due Week 3
Project Overview: For this project, you’ll choose a food or drink item, a cuisine, an invention, or an idea, and then research how four geographic concepts are related to and affect your topic. Instead of presenting your research as a traditional paper, you’ll use PowerPoint to create a narrated presentation. Your presentation will be structured like a paper, including a title, introduction to the topic, main body, summary and conclusions, and references. Creative use of properly cited graphics and photos from the Internet relevant to your topic is required.
First, choose a food item, cuisine, invention, or idea that interests you. Some will have more information available about them than others, so it’s worth doing some investigation before you settle on one. If you’re not sure if your desired topic is appropriate, please feel free to ask!
Once you have selected your topic, you will then do research to see how each of the following geographic concepts affects or is related to your topic:1. Regions 2. Cultural Landscape 3. Diffusion 4. Distance decay. The first two concepts are covered in the first chapter of your textbook. Diffusion is covered in Chapter 8, Section 2 (page 484). Distance decay refers to the fact that influence and interaction between locations decreases as the distance between them increases. As such, it has a significant influence on how things change as they diffuse away from their point of origin. Be sure to address these specific geographic terms and concepts in your work. You don’t need to address them in this order, but you do need to address all of them. You may use “subsets” of these definitions (e.g. contagious diffusion) if such subsets exist. Be sure to refer to your text and other reliable resources to ensure you completely understand these concepts. You should be detailed in your treatment of these concepts – for instance, you should explain both how and why your choice varies by region, and how and why it has been affected by distance decay. Remember that geography, as an academic discipline, seeks to explain why things vary from place to place, not just describe how they do.
You will complete this project in 3 separate assignments: an annotated bibliography, an outline, and your final presentation. In this assignment, you will complete your annotated bibliography. Completing the project in separate assignments allows you to work your way up to the final presentation, and provides opportunity for feedback along the way.
Assignment Objective: Assess sources for your research for your final presentation (for credibility, reliability, and relevance) and list references in proper APA format through the creation of an annotated bibliography.
Assignment Instructions: An annotation is a summary and evaluation, and your annotated bibliography will include a summary and evaluation of some of the sources (or references) you will use for your presentation.
To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:
Read these directions carefully.
Review the sample annotated bibliography provided to you below.
Read the grading criteria below. The grading criteria is a detailed evaluation that I will use to assess your performance. It also will help you understand what is expected you as you prepare your assignment.
Message me with any questions!
The reason the annotated bibliography is included as part of the research project is that writing an annotated bibliography provides excellent preparation for the final presentation. One of the issues regarding any type of research is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By forcing you to evaluate your potential sources carefully, the annotated bibliography helps you determine if the sources you chose are credible and relevant to your topic. It will also help you understand the topic better, which will help you develop your presentation.
For this project, you will assess three sources to include:
1) a complete citation for each source,
2) a summary of each source, and
3) an evaluation of each source.
Three sources are required for this assignment (i.e., you are to write an annotation for each source). However, you must use five or more sources in your final presentation.
Use the TEMPLATE below to summarize and evaluate each of your three sources.
Citation:
Written in APA reference list format. For more help with formatting, see APA handout
Summary:
What is the purpose of the source, review article, original research? What topics are covered? This section is generally 3-5 sentences that summarize the author’s main point. For more help, see this link on paraphrasing sources.
Evaluation:
After summarizing the article (or research paper or book), it is necessary to evaluate it and state where you found it – its source (e.g.,journal, website, etc.). Briefly answer the following questions in 3-5 sentences:
What is the format or type of source (e.g., peer-reviewed journal paper, website, book)? How reliable is the information in the article, and how credible is the source (e.g., website’s sponsoring organization, journal or book publisher) and the author(s)?
For more help, see this handout on evaluating resources.

Instructions: There are many good and appropriate uses for technology, but not all such uses are appropriate or helpful for an organization. In the Bible it says, “So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:23). Computer usage policy is not meant to supersede the organization’s general policies, but rather to complement them.
Therefore, based upon this week’s topics and research, create a general computer usage policy for your corporation, keeping in mind that being able to use a computer is a privilege, not a right, and this privilege comes with personal responsibility.
Additionally, create a set of recommendations for group policy settings by analyzing the implications of Christian worldview in light of human value and dignity.
Your final policy should be 500-750 words in length.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Instructions: You are to create a thoughtful and reflective essay that includes a minimum of four paragraphs (a paragraph must contain a minimum of three sentences, even though APA states two sentences) that addresses the expectations as listed below. This reflective essay may be written in first person because this is your personal reflection. The reflection must be based on the signature assignment, which was two Problem Based Learning (PBL) clinical patient cases. This assignment is graded on how well you address the expectations of the reflection, please make sure you address each of the expectations as listed below!
Expectations of reflection:
1. Introductory paragraph that describes:
-the signature assignment of the Problem Based Learning clinical case study.
-How does what you learned through completing this signature assignment connect to the learning outcomes in this course? (you must write about how they connect to at least 2 of the 3 course CLOs)
CLOS
Assess the various techniques of periodontal therapy.
Analyze a problem based case to meet the comprehensive needs of a patient.
Justify the need for surgical periodontal treatment referrals.
Completing these two pbls helped me understand the topics of implants and orthodontics. We were given two patients and from the case study our prpofessor gave us a particular topic that we had to address and become professional in.
– Describe the gains over the term you have made in achieving the CLOs.
The gains I have made is that I am better to understand the involvement of perio and how it affects orthodontics and implants. With orthodontics I learned that it cannot be placed if it the patient has osseous crater, furcation’s, and three-wall defects. With implants I learned that there are so many times and each one is used for specific reasons.
2.A paragraph (or more) that includes:
What challenges did you encounter in completing this assignment?
-The challenges I encountered was findings new research in the recent 2 year about my topic. Most of the researches were from years ago.
How did you solve these challenges?
-I solved these challenges by getting extra help from our school librarian.
What were the successes you had in completing this assignment?
The success was that I was easly about to find information nabout my topic and it was pretty easy to go into detail about them.
3. A paragraph (or more) that discusses your learning throughout this term:
Describe the learning process throughout the course, what it felt like as you
progressed and mastered certain skills (developing key facts, hypothesis,
learning needs and applying these to effective poster board presentations).
Through out this term it was difficult retaning all the information of periodontology. There is a lot of key facts that need to be memories in order to figure out what status the patient is. In order to be able to see if a patient is periodontally involved you need to go and check many things.
What skills have you obtained from the PBL process and how will you apply
those skills to private practice?
-The skill I have obtained is that now I can easily research a topic and learn about it in detail. It can help me in private practice because I know now what periodontally involved patients need or how to diagnose if they are periodontally involved.
Discuss the skills you are still developing related to the PBL process and your
plans to continue your learning to ensure you remain knowledgeable and competent in the future.
-These skills that I have obtained will help me when I graduate and become a RDH. I can take this to private practice where I will need to explain all these information to the dentist when with a patient.
4.A paragraph (or more) that discusses a connection between what you studied in this course and what you learned in previous courses.
-What I have learned in this course plays the most important role in my clinic class. I. need to know these information when seeing a patient in order to successful create a correct dental hygiene care plan.
Specifically describe how what you learned in other classes enhance what you learned in this class.
-Last term in the periodontology class I was in it helped me learn the basis information for this applied periodontology.
Reflect on what you thought about the CLO’s at the beginning of the class and how you think about them now.
Please look at the clos I provided above and make something up.
What has changed in your assumptions and understanding?
