Adapting to Climate Change through Indigenous Perspectives

Our environment changes dramatically over the course of a century, and these changes are driven mainly by our desire to make our daily lives more straightforward, which is true. Our lives and surroundings have changed dramatically for the better. Traveling to another nation, even worldwide, can now be completed in a single day, getting information from across the world has never been easier, and buying online has become the new standard. However, as these changes in our lives have occurred, we appear to have forgotten to respect our environment; we have been felling trees and polluting both air and water, resulting in a reduction in human environmental safety. Since the discovery of fossil fuels, humans have continued to pollute our environment with vast amounts of carbon dioxide, which absorbs heat from their surroundings and, therefore, raises our planet’s temperature, resulting in climate change.
Indigenous peoples may be the ones who are most affected by these developments. Many publications have claimed that continuing climate change is destroying certain tribes’ century-old customs throughout the world. They now have no option but to adjust to this shift, despite the fact that they are not to blame. The author of this article will discuss how certain indigenous peoples have adapted to the new changes in their environment as a result of climate change.

Adapting to Climate Change
As the name implies, climate change is the alteration of climatic patterns in the earth’s atmosphere. Climate change has caused exceptionally harsh weather in certain nations and a rise in sea levels, which has inundated some low-lying regions. Perhaps the most well-known effect of climate change is the melting of glaciers at our planet’s north and south poles, with predictions that by 2100, more than a third of the planet’s remaining glaciers will have melted, and that 95 percent of the thickest and oldest ice in the Arctic will have vanished even if pollution emissions are reduced in the current days (Hancock, n.d.). And the changes that we, as technologically evolved humans, are causing are impacting indigenous peoples all over the world who rely on their environment to exist.

We humans can do little to none to stop this effect because our needs for non-renewable resources are much higher than ever. Our ability to change nature’s ongoing change is little because what has been done is hard to undone, especially when it comes to our planet. According to (Lindsey, 2020) While we humans will not be able to stop climate change from occurring overnight or for decades, we may reduce its effects by lowering our emissions of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. We have learned to adjust to these fluctuations and accept the reality that the weather will deteriorate at times, and the best thing to do is to be prepared.
When it comes to adaptation, those of us who live in contemporary society can do so fast, but those who do not cannot. Indigenous peoples fail to adapt to climate change because they maintain their culture, traditions,

Discussion – Week 1 (preferred related to Psychiatric care since I work as a Psych Nurse) COLLAPSE Defining Quality As health care consumers, we all expect quality care and positive outcomes. It is important as professionals that we meet these demands of health care consumers. Consider the work of the major theorists you examined in this week’s Resources, and think about how these theories apply to your own experience as a health care customer and/or practitioner. By Day 3 Post your definition of quality, and apply it to the work of one major quality theorist (e.g., Donabedian, Juran, Deming, Triple Aim (IHI) – Berwick). Identify a practice problem that you have had some experience with as a customer or as a practitioner, and explain how eliminating wasteful practices could have improved the experience. Include how your definition of quality applies to that experience. Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature. Your posts need to be written at the capstone level (see checklist). Notes for Initial Post: A 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old). (Refer to AWE Checklist, Capstone) By Day 7 Read two or more of your colleagues’ postings from the Discussion question. Respond with a comment that asks for clarification, provides support for, or contributes additional information to two or more of your colleagues’ postings. Post a Discussion entry on three different days of the week. See the Discussion Rubric found in the Course Information area. You are to create a thoughtful and reflective essay that includes a minimum of four paragraphs (a paragraph must contain a minimum of three sentences, even though APA states two sentences) that addresses the expectations as listed below. This reflective essay may be written in first person because this is your personal reflection. The reflection must be based on the signature assignment, which was two Problem Based Learning (PBL) clinical patient cases. This assignment is graded on how well you address the expectations of the reflection, please make sure you address each of the expectations as listed below! Expectations of reflection: 1. Introductory paragraph that describes: -the signature assignment of the Problem Based Learning clinical case study. -How does what you learned through completing this signature assignment connect to the learning outcomes in this course? (you must write about how they connect to at least 2 of the 3 course CLOs) CLOS Assess the various techniques of periodontal therapy. Analyze a problem based case to meet the comprehensive needs of a patient. Justify the need for surgical periodontal treatment referrals. Completing these two pbls helped me understand the topics of implants and orthodontics. We were given two patients and from the case study our prpofessor gave us a particular topic that we had to address and become professional in. – Describe the gains over the term you have made in achieving the CLOs. The gains I have made is that I am better to understand the involvement of perio and how it affects orthodontics and implants. With orthodontics I learned that it cannot be placed if it the patient has osseous crater, furcation’s, and three-wall defects. With implants I learned that there are so many times and each one is used for specific reasons. 2.A paragraph (or more) that includes: What challenges did you encounter in completing this assignment? -The challenges I encountered was findings new research in the recent 2 year about my topic. Most of the researches were from years ago. How did you solve these challenges? -I solved these challenges by getting extra help from our school librarian. What were the successes you had in completing this assignment? The success was that I was easly about to find information nabout my topic and it was pretty easy to go into detail about them. 3. A paragraph (or more) that discusses your learning throughout this term: Describe the learning process throughout the course, what it felt like as you progressed and mastered certain skills (developing key facts, hypothesis, learning needs and applying these to effective poster board presentations). Through out this term it was difficult retaning all the information of periodontology. There is a lot of key facts that need to be memories in order to figure out what status the patient is. In order to be able to see if a patient is periodontally involved you need to go and check many things. What skills have you obtained from the PBL process and how will you apply those skills to private practice? -The skill I have obtained is that now I can easily research a topic and learn about it in detail. It can help me in private practice because I know now what periodontally involved patients need or how to diagnose if they are periodontally involved. Discuss the skills you are still developing related to the PBL process and your plans to continue your learning to ensure you remain knowledgeable and competent in the future. -These skills that I have obtained will help me when I graduate and become a RDH. I can take this to private practice where I will need to explain all these information to the dentist when with a patient. 4.A paragraph (or more) that discusses a connection between what you studied in this course and what you learned in previous courses. -What I have learned in this course plays the most important role in my clinic class. I. need to know these information when seeing a patient in order to successful create a correct dental hygiene care plan. Specifically describe how what you learned in other classes enhance what you learned in this class. -Last term in the periodontology class I was in it helped me learn the basis information for this applied periodontology. Reflect on what you thought about the CLO’s at the beginning of the class and how you think about them now. Please look at the clos I provided above and make something up. What has changed in your assumptions and understanding? Please write something

In no more than six sentences, explore the connection between your two annotated passages in the following way. Pick two passages from the novel Beloved, Pick one motif or technique shared by both passages and compare and contrast how this technique or motif is used in each. Then imagine what problem or question the novel is trying to think through in these two passages. Your claim should articulate your judgment about what important question or problem is at issue in these passages. You do not have to say how the novel solves this problem or answers this question. In fact, you should not attempt to. Your task is use close analysis of the language of the passages to identify that question with as much nuance and precision as you can. In fact, you should not attempt to. Your task is use close analysis of the language of the passages to identify that question with as much nuance and precision as you can. Hint 1: Perhaps the best way to make a claim about what question the passages are preoccupied with is to use the following template: Through the motif/technique of _____________, these passages pose the question of what/how/why/to what extent/under what conditions __________________. In the blank there should be at least one noun, maybe more, and at least one verb, and the noun should name the crucial topic that the passages are exploring. If you decide not to use this template, you may be avoiding the task in the prompt. Hint 2: Motif should not be confused with topic or theme. Remember that a motif is a concrete image or phrase that is repeated across the novel and that out of which a significant pattern is made. Death or memory are topics; “rememory” or “chokecherry tree” or 124’s “white staircase” or “pieces” or “weight” or “A man ain’t nothin but a man” are motifs. A novel like Beloved says what it has to say about the topics it is concerned with by developing its motifs in the way that it does. Hint 3: Although you do not have to focus on point of view as your technique, you should be mindful of which characters’ thoughts are being reported in the passages you’ve chosen. As we’ve seen, the narrative function within this novel is almost always to report the thoughts of particular characters.

Readings: Zadie Smith, Joy Helen Rosner, Christ in the Garden of Endless Breadsticks In ‘Joy, Smith invites us to rethink the experience of ‘pleasure’ and ‘joy’ and argues that the experience of joy is central to the human experience. In the first paper, I would like you to put Smith’s theory of joy to work, determining whether it can help us understand the appeal of ‘The Olive Garden’ as discussed by Rosner. To what extent can we use Smith’s understanding of ‘joy’ and ‘pleasure’ to rethink the ‘agonies and ecstasies’ of the Olive Garden? How might Rosner’s view of the Olive Garden help refine or complicate Smith’s understanding of joy? Additional questions you might want to consider: Are there moments of ‘joy’ in Rosner’s discussion of eating at The Olive Garden? In what way do they conform to ‘joy’? In what way are they different? How could this be related to Gaugin’s painting? For Smith, joy has a complicated process. Is there something similar at the Olive Garden? Is the experience of eating food always simply a pleasure? Does Rosner offer a more positive version of what Smith calls ‘joy’? A more negative one? Smith often refers to pleasure as a release from anxiety. What is the role of anxiety in both essays?

Please read the instruction exactly , and the citation should be the college art history coverage. In this week’s lesson, and in previous weeks, we have discussed works of art and the contexts in which they exist/are shown. How does seeing an object in its original context, and in a new (and perhaps unintended) context, change the way a work of art communicates? What, for example, is the difference between seeing a medieval altarpiece in the context of the church ( and perhaps a particular chapel) for which it was made versus seeing the same altarpiece at the Museum of Fine Arts behind glass? Or, seeing a Minimalist cube in a gallery for which it was made versus outdoors in an open-air courtyard at the Museum of Modern Art? Along with the differences, are there any similarities in the two experiences (“original” versus new settings)? Please note that the point here is not to choose a “favorite” setting (original or new), but simply to reflect on the similarities and differences in the experience of the work of art when its setting has changed. Finally, can you cite at least one example of a work of art discussed in this course in which the original setting has been changed? Discuss. Post your thoughts, following the instructions below. Your post should be two to three paragraphs long.

* Using the preliminary work done in your research journals, write a project proposal for your TA’s and lecturer’s approval. Your proposal must contain the sections below, with headings to label each one. While your audience is your instructors who are familiar with the course, you should still be sure to thoroughly and clearly explain your research process and project. * * Introduction of Research Question + Audience Analysis (aim for roughly 300 words): Open this section with a revised version of the research question you submitted in Week 4. Devote the rest of this section to explaining why this question is significant, by answering the following questions: * How will this research question help you address an issue that needs to be considered, especially as society rebuilds post-pandemic? How will this question help you come up with a particular action/solution/intervention to take with your peers to address this issue when we all return to campus? * How will this research question help you get the information you’ll need to pose an effective call to action to your peers? In other words, how will answering this research question help you get your peers to join you? What common knowledge, values, or ideological frameworks will it help you establish with your peers? * * Research Plan (aim for roughly 300 words): This section will explain your plan for answering your research question. * Identify what you don’t know yet. Answer these questions: What are the gaps in your knowledge, and how will you fill those gaps? Which of the following will you do to fill those gaps: more library research, experimentation, participatory observation at a synchronous UCSD source, or some other research activities? * Propose a detailed timeline for yourself for the last five weeks of the quarter so that you can complete the research project by its due date. What will you complete, and by when? You must note in this timeline what synchronous UCSD source you are planning to attend before the week 8 deadline to submit your annotated bibliographic entry for this specific source. * * * Annotated Bibliography (aim for roughly 500 words): For the last section of your proposal, include two annotated bibliographic entries (about 250 words per source), in APA format, to show the research you have done thus far. One entry should be for any DOC course text (assigned or suggested from any quarter) that helps you answer your research question. The remaining entry should be for an outside source you have found through library database searches. Remember to consult our library guide on how to structure annotated bibliographic entries (https://ucsd(dot)libguides(dot)com/DOC3/annotatedbib). Each annotation should include a critical summary of the source’s argument (in your own words), an evaluation of the usefulness of the source in helping you answer your research question, and a description of how you plan to utilize the source in your final research project. * NOTE ON SOURCE USE IN THE PROPOSAL: You may reference sources in your project proposal that are not included in your annotated bibliography as long as you fully utilize APA citation requirements and list the sources on a separate References page at the end of your proposal.
