Advantages and Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence in the Accounting Industry

Understanding the importance of technology in the development of accounting is essential for any accounting professional. It allows him to take advantage of these emerging technologies and increase his efficiency and effectiveness in performing his work. However, similar to any other technological improvement, these new tools can cause more harm than good when misused. This is particularly the case considering that the practice of accounting is vested with the public interest. In line with this, this article would focus on one emerging technology that is also applied in this field – Artificial Intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) is usually defined as the field of computer science with the main task of developing machines that can simulate human intelligence by being adaptive through the acquisition and processing of new information. Accordingly, although the application of AI can significantly improve field accountancy, the succeeding sections would describe both the advantages and disadvantages of using this new technology.
Advantages of AI Application in Accountancy
One of the main advantages of AI in the field of accountancy is the reduction of manpower and the increase of work efficiency. One of the most tedious parts of accounting is keeping records and collating data, especially if it comes from a number of sources. This takes up a lot of time and resources even with the use of current software (i.e., Excel) because the accountant is also required to determine the veracity of the information and check whether there are entries that could make the overall results inaccurate. Accordingly, by using AI, most administrative functions could be done with the use of machine learning. For example, if the AI determines that a particular cost is recorded in the company books as a long-term debt, subsequent entries would automatically use the same format as the organization. In other words, AI can help automate data entry and reduce the efforts needed to check for any erroneous entries in the system (Gracey, 2020). In turn, this would make the accountant’s job easier and help the company reduce its manpower costs since the AI system can do the bulk of the administrative workload.
Aside from increasing efficiency, another vital function of AI in accountancy is the improvement in the accuracy of records. These kinds of inaccuracies could be due to a simple mistake or malicious attempts to modify the data. In one article written by Berry (2015), the author noted that human errors account for the highest source of inaccuracies in bookkeeping and accounting in the current-day use of technological tools. The author noted that about 27.5% of professionals had “reported that incorrect data had been manually input into an enterprise system at their firms.” Additionally, other types of errors were reported, including overriding system data using external programs (13%) and deletion of pre-designed excel formulas (17%), among others.

8-1 Describe the structure of the Baron EQ/I assessment. How can this assessment lead to a better understanding of interacting with others? Explain.
Andre The Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory is a self-report assessment of emotional and social factors that gives an estimate of emotional and social intelligence (Bar-On, 2013). It is a 133-item inventory that scores five areas (intrapersonal and interpersonal factors. stress management skills, situational adaptability and general positive moods). The principle of Bar-On is that if one manages their own responses effectively, it will translate into positive interpersonal relationships with others (Bar-On, 2006). This is due to the idea that one needs to assess their emotional intelligence, in order to respond to their emotions effectively, which affects one’s emotional health and ultimately their psychological well-being (Bar-On, 2013). When these three factors are in balance and the person is not engaging in self-defeating behaviors, one can interact with others effectively as well.

Tara, The structure of the Baron EQ/1 assessment assesses self-perception, interpersonal, decision making, stress management, and self-expression (High Performing Systems, Inc., n.d.). The EQ-i consists of 133 items in the form of short sentences and employs a 5-point response scale with a textual response format ranging from “very seldom or not true of me” (1) to “very often true of me or true of me” (5) (High Performing Systems, Inc., n.d.). It measures socially and emotionally intelligent behavior. Emotional intelligence is believed to be a critical determinant of life success (High Performing Systems, Inc., n.d.).
This assessment can lead to a better understanding of interacting with others because the knowledge gained helps guide actions and thoughts towards self and others. One may find new methods that allow their emotional intelligence to become stronger, therefore, providing them with the confidence needed for robust decision making.

This is my post Andre comment answer his comment below The full assessment of the combined emotional social intelligence comprise five major components, viz, Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Stress Management, General Mood Scale, and Adaptability.
Intrapersonal reveals tendencies of self-regard, emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, independence, and self-determination.
Interpersonal focuses on empathy, social responsibility, and socialization.
Stress Management explores tolerance to stress, and self-control when overwhelmed with emotions.
General mood scale checks an individual’s hopefulness and joy.Adaptability deals with life skills especially problem solving techniques, versatility and acceptance of reality
How can EQ/I assessment lead to a better understanding of interacting with others? Explain. The components as aforementioned provide a reserve of data about the people around an individual. Proper use of the knowledge gathered from those around you helps one communicate better, handle conflicts peacefully, empathize and handle challenges with confidence (Unknown, 2015). If the behavior at workplace, feelings, and relationship is checked then the quality of life of those around you are likely to be inspired. Reference

Andre Hello Doris,
Your responses are indicative of the primary applicability of Bar-On to interpersonal relationships. Personal emotional well being can have an overwhelmingly positive impact on ho one participates in relationships, which can create healthy families, social structures and healthy communities. It does appear that the creators of Bar-On are looking to apply it more so to human performance in organizational settings. The goal is to maximize one’s potential and produce a concept of “star performer profiling” (Bar-On, 2013). The Bar-On is utilized to select, train and develop high performers by taking the Bar-On scores of employees that predict high performance, placing those employees in leadership training programs and matching the scores with employee performance reports two years after the initial assessment. It does seem that Bar-On has more immediate application in interpersonal relationships.

Its broken down into five areas; Stress management, self-perception, self-expression interpersonal and decision making. This covers more in-depth with emotional self-awareness, empathy, problem solving, impulse control and optimism. “In brief, the EQ-i contains 133 items in the form of short sentences and employs a 5-point response scale with a textual response format” (2006)
EI is a touch tricky as it should show the capacity to be aware and control ones emotions.

The tricky part is what side of the scale you are viewing it from. Slow or consistent picky or careful, when we measure things like this or at least in this manner it comes down to social perspective. Not a lot past that. That makes it at least hard for me to better understand how this can help with understanding others or even interacting with them. Sure there is a huge difference between acting out and not, that is why I used the examples that I did. My wife will tell you I am fussy, I would tell you I am meticulous. I would tell you that I am strong willed but others would say I am bossy. Again its all about perspective, and when things like that come down to it, there is no real right or wrong answers.

8-2 For what situations would the Baron EQ/I assessment be most appropriate or applicable? Explain.
Andre
The Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory measures emotional and social intelligence (Bar-On, 2013). Emotional intelligence involves abilities, competencies and skills related to understanding oneself and others, relating to peers and family members, and adapting to changing environmental situations and demands. The problem becomes when one uses emotional responses to life situations rather than effective problem-solving. Emotional responses can affect a person’s perspective and interfere with their ability to manage their situations effectivly. The situations in which the Bar-On EQ/I would be most useful are those in which emotional reactivity impacts one’s ability to manage their situations effectively. The two primary areas that I would use Bar-On are when the client is experiencing anger, sadness or anhedonia and this either causes decreased motivation or affects their interpersonal interactions with others either in their career or in their interpersonal relationships.

For this week’s discussion, I am going to focus on providing guidance on making a school safer through utilization of CPTED. The first thing that I would ask the school district to consider, is the installation of cameras all throughout the facility. In my experience, I have found that individuals tend to behave better knowing that the entire school is under constant video monitoring.
The pdf from our week 4 reading “CPTED 101: The Fundamentals for Schools,” provides excellent information on how to make new and existing schools safer through CPTED by offering, “three simple concepts: surveillance, access control, and territoriality.” These three concepts would be my next focus in presenting resolutions to their safety concerns for the school.
Surveillance refers to the ability of the school personnel to see throughout their school. Can they see who is coming or going? Are there large brick walls that block “hiding spots” or restrict ability for staff to see who is sneaking in or out of the building? If so, those walls should be replaced with windows or slotted gates that provide visibility. Large or overgrown trees and shrubs should be cleared and cut back as well to provide easy viewing inside and around the building. Any areas that may be good hiding spots throughout the building should be removed entirely or, “install convex mirrors to provide visibility around corners” (CPTED 101.pdf). Surveillance also encompasses the lighting throughout the school. There are mixed opinions on wether or not a school should remain well-lit after hours, with some finding that a dark, unlit property provides a deterrence. I would personally suggest that the school be dark after hours and note, “School resource officers have found that good lighting made schools ideal hangouts after hours, while darkness discouraged kids from congregating” (CPTED 101.pdf).
I would then advise the school district that access control is an absolute must for their school. All visitors should be directed to a single entrance that can be effectively monitored. All other entrances, to include windows, should be reconfigured, “so that they automatically lock when closed and only serve as emergency exits” (CPTED 101.pdf).
An important factor to consider in designing the safety for a school is the necessity to call a lockdown in the event of emergencies, such as active shooter incidents. For this reason, it is very critical that access into the building is reduced to a single point of entry, with the ability for staff to see who is approaching lock down the school with a push of a button if necessary. Clear line of sight from the main office would provide that time and ability to see any threat, and installation of an auto-lock feature and public address system would provide sufficient ability to lock the entrance and signal a lock-down.
Lastly, I would advise that territoriality be addressed. This is the process of establishing clear messaging of how the school is managed as well as clearly established boundaries around the property that let someone know they are on school grounds. This can be accomplished through well groomed hedges that line the property and signs that note “no trespassing on school property” after a certain time.
In closing, I would advise that providing proper surveillance, access control, and territoriality will will most certainly create a safer environment to the school.

When thinking about the violence and trying to ensure that schools are secure and safe, it takes careful planning and time to ensure top notch work to the last detail. Before the pandemic, students faced violence and the schools (some) really did not address the issue appropriately. The violence students faced were bullying, fighting, and cyber bullying. The way many schools were designed, with stairwells, sometimes students could easily walk into a bully who was standing around the corner and be attacked. Others were bold enough to push or forcefully hit the student causing her to fall and receive serious injuries. Fighting takes place in open and closed areas, preferably in closed areas such locker rooms or in the gym after classes were over for the day. Cyber bullying has been a problem that encouraged bullying and fighting. While in school bullies were able to still use the iPads, computers, and even their cell phones to harass and bully others. So with this knowledge, policies can be in place and enforced for those students who use the schools property to bully and/or harass students. Using the IP address for the computer or iPad, it can be traced to the student. Once identification is known, the device should be confiscated and the student expelled. Depending on the severity of the bullying or harassment, other charges can be given because the police can be called in. Many school districts look at this type of behavior when students are not in school as well.
It would be recommended to the board and others to revamp the stairwells by tearing down the walls and have open stairs without the walls. The only thing would be the handrails which leaves all open space where everything can be seen. This would be an ideal to plan for building new schools. Another factor to improve or create would be surveillance cameras at everydoor entrance. There should the same type of cameras at the doors inside the gym, cafeteria, even at the outside of these places. To respect the privacy of students cameras would not be inside the bathrooms or locker rooms. However there needs to be some at the entrances. While there are entrances around the schools to be used as fire escapes these doors should be the type that have silent alarm when it is opened or someone props it open for unlawful entrance or exit. The cameras would have the person on camera to help identify the person or persons. There needs to be one entrance to go in and out of the school. Cameras would be in place at each entrance along with metal detectors to pass through. In the office, any person who will be moving through the school will have to get a pass with his or her picture on the pass which is taken after signing in. This is to be worn on the clothing to be seen and identified as having permission to be going to a designated class or area. These are just some thoughts as to how our schools can be made safer. 1 page / approx 275 words | APA | English (US) 🇺🇸 | Essay | Literature & Language | Undergraduate |

Instructions: As Covid-19 cases increase, new restrictions have been put in place in Los Angeles County. On Sunday, November 22, it was announced that outdoor dining would no longer be allowed in Los Angeles County for at least three weeks. On Friday the 27th, the day after Thanksgiving, L.A. County announced a new stay-at-home order which prohibits all private and public gatherings which include people from multiple households, except for religious gatherings and political protests, and also puts additional occupancy limits on businesses.
From the LA Times:
• Officials have warned that even more strict rules — perhaps a more formal stay-at-home order — are likely if L.A. can’t begin to bend the curve on this third wave.
• Two months ago, officials estimated that 1 in 880 L.A. County residents were infected with the coronavirus; now, they believe it’s 1 in 145 and climbing, meaning the activities that people once enjoyed safely now pose more risk.
• Public health officials on Saturday reported 3,143 new cases of the virus and 19 deaths but said that the numbers were low because no community testing was offered on Thanksgiving, and only limited testing was performed the day after. Nonetheless, officials said, the proportion of tests coming back positive doubled over the last two weeks, reaching 7.4%.
• Even though she works outside at a kiosk — just outside Skechers — Anabel Velazquez worries about the health risk. She says people take offense when she reminds them to wear a mask or wear it properly — which is ironic because she sells masks and was herself sporting one with a Playboy logo.
From The Guardian:
• Restaurants across the state have also invested significant resources in setting up outdoor dining, which has added to the frustration with the shutdown. Guerrilla Tacos spent roughly $27,000 to create an outdoor space and has been selling out reservations, making a slim profit.
• Other LA restaurant owners said they were worried this shutdown would force them to permanently close.
• Some conservative parts of the state, including Huntington Beach, south of LA, have protested against Newsom’s restrictions, with some urging him to “open California” at a rally after curfew rules went into effect Saturday night.
• Newsom recently faced scrutiny after photos emerged of him dining out with other families at French Laundry, one of California’s most expensive and upscale restaurants. 2 pages / approx 550 words | APA | English (US) 🇺🇸 | Essay | Literature & Language | Undergraduate |
