Anthropology: Life History
Understanding life history is important for any Anthropologist. It allows him to be able to understand the relationship between humans and their environment with regards to the coping mechanisms as well as its success in allowing them to survive. Accordingly, one way to understand life history is by looking at the different periods of development that humans had during their lifetimes. Periods such as birth, infancy, maturity, reproduction, and death, that are all connected with the external circumstances in society. In this paper, the author would try to understand how human’ life expectancy has evolved through time by understanding the different periods of development that were experienced by humans in different periods of time. The periods of development would depend on the different body sizes that human species had. Particularly, the analysis would be done through the measurement of fossil sizes, which would shed light on the trajectory of development for early humans through time. Nonetheless, the author of the paper believes that different species of humans also had different life spans, in relation to the differences in their body sizes.

Methods

In order to understand the relationships between the variables in this study, the author initially measured a collection of fossils for different human and ape species. He used a Vernier caliper to obtain cranial measurements and orbital height. However, since it is difficult to obtain full-body samples of each of the species, the author had to rely on the orbital measurements in order to obtain an estimate of the body mass of the species. This estimate is based from the studies that show a strong relationship between a species’orbital height and the overall body mass (Aiello and Wood).

Chapter 5 is all about learning behavior. Each and everyone one of us has acquired a number of behaviors over many, many years. And whether these behaviors are good, bad or extremely ugly, they were learned through one of the three learning theories we’ve been discussing (at least according to learning theorists). The great thing about learning is that if a behavior can be learned, odds are that it can be unlearned. In this reflection paper your goal is to: What is the behavior? Identify ONE BAD HABIT that you have LEARNED but would like to change. Choose ONLY ONE bad habit and focus on that. Do NOT choose something more complex that could be considered a personality trait or an emotion–that would be difficult to explain using learning theory. Remember, Behaviorists focus on OBSERVABLE, MEASURABLE behavior. For example, don’t say “I’d like to change my anger,” or “shyness”, or “my tendency to please others”–these are NOT good choices. These are emotions/personality traits that are not likley to be learned through behaviorist theories. BAD choices for this paper = anger, anxiety, shyness, rudeness, people pleasing etc. GOOD EXAMPLES for this paper= procrastination, nail biting, smoking, drinking, overeating, too much TV/videogames/social media, etc. These can ALL be easily measured so that you can Something that you can easily see if you begin doing more or less of this habit. Then briefly describe the behavior and how it has become problematic in your life. What learning theory applies? Identify which theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) best explains how you acquired the behavior and why? Be sure to use terminology that is appropriate to that learning theory. The point of your essay is to demonstrate your understanding of these theories and your ability to apply them accurately, so you MUST be detailed. How can you unlearn this behavior? Now that you have explained how you acquired this behavior, use learning theory to discuss how you can extinguish the behavior. Which learning theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) will you use to help unlearn the behavior and how? What is the specific plan? Again, be sure to use appropriate learning theory terminology. It is necessary to demonstrate an understanding of the material in Chapter 5, Module 3. Grammar, Spelling and Organization. This is a college level ESSAY and should be organized in essay format. An essay is NEVER one long paragraph. You should carefully spell check and grammar check your work. Try this: Read your essay OUT LOUD and see how it sounds. If there are sentences that make you pause, then they are not good sentences—fix them. Remember you may also utilize the writing center for assistance–they are excellent and can set up online appointments to help review your work. They can proofread a draft and offer suggestions ONLINE. The following grading rubric will be used, so make sure that you have accurately addressed each component. Remember, the point of the essay is to demonstrate an understanding of the theories presented in Chapter 5/Module 3 and your ability to accurately apply those theories: Topic Area Points ONE Problematic Bad/Habit Clearly Identified, Detailed & Measurable /3 Acquisition: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) as the cause of your bad habit. Correctly explain how the behavior has caused the acquisition of your bad habit by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Extinction: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) to plan for extinction of your bad habit. Correctly explain how you will apply the theory by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Overall quality: Clarity, organization, grammar, spelling and APA citations if applicable). /3 Other Guidelines: Papers MUST be submitted here. Emailed papers or attachments will not be accepted. You SHOULD type your essay directly into the assignment (you can exit and return as many times as you like until you hit the submit button). You can cut and paste from a word document BUT keep in mind that if you cut and paste IT MAY CHANGE the formatting of your work. If this happens you should fix the formatting to ensure proper essay format before submitting. The essay should be no more than 2 pages (approximately 500 words) in length, using 12 point font, double spaced (if you type directly into Canvas, it will double space for you). When you mention a concept or theory in your paper, be sure to provide a definition/explanation from the textbook. When you take a definition/explanation from the textbook, do not copy it word for word; instead, paraphrase in your own words and cite the textbook in APA style (Hockenbury and Hockenbury, 2016, pg #). BEWARE of PLAGARISM.

General Instructions: Write in a thoughtful, clear, and complete manner with a thesis statement and by writing full sentences, paragraphs, and transitions. Do not use direct quotations. It is essential that you learn to paraphrase or summarize. You will be expected to use MLA in-text citations and Works Cited at the end of each assignment for the primary source article and any other articles or websites you used to develop your response. Italicize works of art, just as you would like books and film. Assignment Instructions: Select one of the four (4) works of art from the previous Analysis (Case Study) Resources page to focus on to conduct your first visual analysis. Provide a thoughtful and well developed visual analysis based on the techniques practiced leading up to this assignment. The final product should be a 2-page paper. Your initial reading is a close examination of the work you’ve chosen before you read about it. In order to describe what you see, you might consider: What do you notice first? Why? What do the colors convey? How? How is the space occupied? Is there a foreground and a background (2D) or is the piece sculptural (3D) with mass and volume? Is there an implied shape, such as a triangle, square, or circle, that brings balance to the composition? Are there diagonal lines that make it dynamic? Next, read the materials provided about the work of art. You are welcome to do additional research on the internet as long as you use reputable websites, such as those from museums and art publications. Go back to your piece and take an even closer look. Think about what you’ve read and what you see. How does its meaning deepen from additional information the work of art? Then, consider how the formal elements play into the artist’s intention or audience’s interpretation of the work. Making connections and observations about form and content are the key to writing a strong analysis. Remember to cite as appropriate. Refer to your Plagiarism Quiz as a refresher. Include several of areas from the first and second points to bring you to the third point. 1. Initial Reading (what do you see and understand when you first look at the work?) -Medium (materials) -Formal Elements -Subject 2. Contextual Research -Content -History -Emphasis -Effect -Symbolism -Relevance -Political Parallels -Social Implications -Audience? -Influences? -Captions/Title/Text -Ethical/Logical/Emotional Appeal? 3. Meaning Bring it together. What does the work of art mean? Develop a persuasive, cohesive analysis that includes what you see through form and context. Project Management Individual Project Management Plan Team Project – Individual Project Management Plan Please read the Team project “Project Charter Uber Tour” doc in the attachment first, Then write the individual project management plan—- focus on the Project Risk Management only 1. Introduction 2. Goals 3. Objectives 4. Roles and Responsibilities 5. Deliverables 6. For each planning process associated with the knowledge area covered by your plan (as described in class and PMBOK), describe how the process will be handled for the project. You should also list and describe the inputs, tools and techniques and outputs of the process. In PMBOK:[planning process] -Plan Risk Management -Identify Risks -Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis -Perform Quantitative Risk Analysis – Plan Risk Responses -Implement Risk Responses -Monitoring and Controlling Process Group -Monitor Risks Your plan should be written in a narrative format, providing ample description within each section. It is not sufficient to simply provide a series of bulleted lists of materials! There is no length constraint, but plans do not have to be long! You have to keep in mind also that your plan is not intended to summarize the results of analysis and responses. It is supposed to describe how the communications management processes would be executed and who would do that work. Think of your plan as providing instructions to the project team as to how to do the necessary work in this area. Do your own work and make sure you answer all the questions. It will submit on the Turnitin. Submission will be sent to Turnitin to be electronically reviewed for plagiarism.

This week you will begin work on your final project. Your final project will be counted as your final exam and will consist of preparing a Global Business Plan. A link to the outline is provided below: This class strives to provide you with papers/projects that relate to real-world expectations. You will first choose a product or service (not both) and one country. This plan is specifically written for one product or service and one country – no comparison or contrasting! After you have read the guidelines, write a few paragraphs which summarize your final project idea. Submit this by the normal time on Monday but earlier would be better! Please contact me if you have any questions regarding a product/service and/or a country of choice. Take Note: for this assignment, you need to select a topic and country selection. This is for a new market entry, for a product or service, that does not yet exist in that market. This is not research of an existing product. iPhone already exists in the US and globally(WRONG). The country selection should be a country you are not familiar. Also, the product/service you select should ultimately meet the needs of the consumers in that market. If you would like to select the iPhone 12 PRO, I need you to select and profile a country where it does not yet exist.

Write a 750-1000 word analysis of “Case Study: Fetal Abnormality.” Be sure to address the following questions: Which theory or theories are being used by Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson to determine the moral status of the fetus? Explain. How does the theory determine or influence each of their recommendation for action? What theory do you agree with? How would that theory determine or influence the recommendation for action? Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. Case Study: Fetal Abnormality Jessica is a 30-year-old immigrant from Mexico City. She and her husband Marco have been in the U.S. for the last three years and have finally earned enough money to move out of their Aunt Maria’s home and into an apartment of their own. They are both hard workers. Jessica works 50 hours a week at a local restaurant and Marco has been contracting side jobs in construction. Six months before their move to an apartment, Jessica finds out she is pregnant. Four months later, Jessica and Marco arrive at the county hospital, a large, public, nonteaching hospital. A preliminary ultrasound indicates a possible abnormality with the fetus. Further scans are conducted and it is determined that the fetus has a rare condition in which it has not developed any arms, and will not likely develop them. There is also a 25% chance that the fetus may have Down syndrome. Dr. Wilson, the primary attending physician, is seeing Jessica for the first time, since she and Marco did not receive earlier prenatal care over concerns about finances. Marco insists that Dr. Wilson refrain from telling Jessica the scan results, assuring him that he will tell his wife himself when she is emotionally ready for the news. While Marco and Dr. Wilson are talking in another room, Aunt Maria walks into the room with a distressed look on her face. She can tell that something is wrong and inquires of Dr. Wilson. After hearing of the diagnosis, she walks out of the room wailing loudly and praying aloud. Marco and Dr. Wilson continue their discussion, and Dr. Wilson insists that he has an obligation to Jessica as his patient and that she has a right to know the diagnosis of the fetus. He furthermore is intent on discussing all relevant factors and options regarding the next step, including abortion. Marco insists on taking some time to think of how to break the news to Jessica, but Dr. Wilson, frustrated with the direction of the conversation, informs the husband that such a choice is not his to make. Dr. Wilson proceeds back across the hall, where he walks in on Aunt Maria awkwardly praying with Jessica and phoning the priest. At that point, Dr. Wilson gently but briefly informs Jessica of the diagnosis, and lays out the option for abortion as a responsible medical alternative, given the quality of life such a child would have. Jessica looks at him and struggles to hold back her tears. Jessica is torn between her hopes of a better socioeconomic position and increased independence, along with her conviction that all life is sacred. Marco will support Jessica in whatever decision she makes, but is finding it difficult not to view the pregnancy and the prospects of a disabled child as a burden and a barrier to their economic security and plans. Dr. Wilson lays out all of the options but clearly makes his view known that abortion is “scientifically” and medically a wise choice in this situation. Aunt Maria pleads with Jessica to follow through with the pregnancy and allow what “God intends” to take place, and urges Jessica to think of her responsibility as a mother. 70.0 %Content 25.0 %Determination of Moral Status Theory/Theories that determine the moral status of the fetus are incorrectly identified. 1. Why do you think Alexie in Absolutely True Diary and Baldwin in “Sonny’s Blues” decided to tell their stories partly through artforms other than words? We see many of Junior’s drawings, and in several styles, and Baldwin uses contrasting musical styles as a key motif in “Sonny’s Blues.” Write one or two paragraphs on each work (do not compare and contrast.) For background on Alexie, read the interview with illustrator Ellen Forney at the back of ‘Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” Why does the book use contrasting styles and how does it tie in with writing styles/moods from chapter to chapter?
For Baldwin, listen to and learn about the radical change from traditional jazz (like Louis Armstrong), to modern Bebop (‘Bird’/Charlie Parker). Do some web research before you write. Why did many middle-class, religious, and older blacks attack and dislike Bebop? Who in ‘Sonny’s Blues’ is aligned with each? Why do you think Baldwin uses contrasting jazz styles and gospel music to tell this particular story about an African American artist and his family?   2. Select one key character in Go Tell It on the Mountain who is not given a separate chapter (ie, not John, Gabriel, Florence, Elizabeth). How is that character treated as both believable, complex, and human, yet also at the same time as a symbolic, even Biblical figure? What part does he or she play in the intertwined stories of racist violence, prayers, visions, sin, and redemption?
