Anthropology of Gender: An Ethnography of Drag Performance

1. Why do you think Alexie in Absolutely True Diary and Baldwin in “Sonny’s Blues” decided to tell their stories partly through artforms other than words? We see many of Junior’s drawings, and in several styles, and Baldwin uses contrasting musical styles as a key motif in “Sonny’s Blues.” Write one or two paragraphs on each work (do not compare and contrast.) For background on Alexie, read the interview with illustrator Ellen Forney at the back of ‘Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” Why does the book use contrasting styles and how does it tie in with writing styles/moods from chapter to chapter? For Baldwin, listen to and learn about the radical change from traditional jazz (like Louis Armstrong), to modern Bebop (‘Bird’/Charlie Parker). Do some web research before you write. Why did many middle-class, religious, and older blacks attack and dislike Bebop? Who in ‘Sonny’s Blues’ is aligned with each? Why do you think Baldwin uses contrasting jazz styles and gospel music to tell this particular story about an African American artist and his family?   2. Select one key character in Go Tell It on the Mountain who is not given a separate chapter (ie, not John, Gabriel, Florence, Elizabeth). How is that character treated as both believable, complex, and human, yet also at the same time as a symbolic, even Biblical figure? What part does he or she play in the intertwined stories of racist violence, prayers, visions, sin, and redemption?

Evaluate the LBO proposal and determine the value of the firm if it undertakes the LBO and compare this to the existing value of the firm. Create a workflow diagram of clinical and non-clinical data within an inpatient electronic medical record system. Include the departments for which this data would be captured and stored. For instance, chest x-ray reports would be captured in radiology department. You need to have a minimum of at least 10 data points. Make sure to explain the role of all data points. It is important that your data flows throughout your workflow diagram. For instance, you would not want your first data point to be the chest x-ray/radiology, then the next data point to be admissions (admission data would need to come first). You can create your workflow diagram using any workflow tool such as Smart Draw and Microsoft Word. You can also use PowerPoint if you prefer. You are to create a thoughtful and reflective essay that includes a minimum of four paragraphs (a paragraph must contain a minimum of three sentences, even though APA states two sentences) that addresses the expectations as listed below. This reflective essay may be written in first person because this is your personal reflection. The reflection must be based on the signature assignment, which was two Problem Based Learning (PBL) clinical patient cases. This assignment is graded on how well you address the expectations of the reflection, please make sure you address each of the expectations as listed below! Expectations of reflection: 1. Introductory paragraph that describes: -the signature assignment of the Problem Based Learning clinical case study. -How does what you learned through completing this signature assignment connect to the learning outcomes in this course? (you must write about how they connect to at least 2 of the 3 course CLOs) CLOS Assess the various techniques of periodontal therapy. Analyze a problem based case to meet the comprehensive needs of a patient. Justify the need for surgical periodontal treatment referrals. Completing these two pbls helped me understand the topics of implants and orthodontics. We were given two patients and from the case study our prpofessor gave us a particular topic that we had to address and become professional in. – Describe the gains over the term you have made in achieving the CLOs. The gains I have made is that I am better to understand the involvement of perio and how it affects orthodontics and implants. With orthodontics I learned that it cannot be placed if it the patient has osseous crater, furcation’s, and three-wall defects. With implants I learned that there are so many times and each one is used for specific reasons. 2.A paragraph (or more) that includes: What challenges did you encounter in completing this assignment? -The challenges I encountered was findings new research in the recent 2 year about my topic. Most of the researches were from years ago. How did you solve these challenges? -I solved these challenges by getting extra help from our school librarian. What were the successes you had in completing this assignment? The success was that I was easly about to find information nabout my topic and it was pretty easy to go into detail about them. 3. A paragraph (or more) that discusses your learning throughout this term: Describe the learning process throughout the course, what it felt like as you progressed and mastered certain skills (developing key facts, hypothesis, learning needs and applying these to effective poster board presentations). Through out this term it was difficult retaning all the information of periodontology. There is a lot of key facts that need to be memories in order to figure out what status the patient is. In order to be able to see if a patient is periodontally involved you need to go and check many things. What skills have you obtained from the PBL process and how will you apply those skills to private practice? -The skill I have obtained is that now I can easily research a topic and learn about it in detail. It can help me in private practice because I know now what periodontally involved patients need or how to diagnose if they are periodontally involved. Discuss the skills you are still developing related to the PBL process and your plans to continue your learning to ensure you remain knowledgeable and competent in the future. -These skills that I have obtained will help me when I graduate and become a RDH. I can take this to private practice where I will need to explain all these information to the dentist when with a patient. 4.A paragraph (or more) that discusses a connection between what you studied in this course and what you learned in previous courses. -What I have learned in this course plays the most important role in my clinic class. I. need to know these information when seeing a patient in order to successful create a correct dental hygiene care plan. Specifically describe how what you learned in other classes enhance what you learned in this class. -Last term in the periodontology class I was in it helped me learn the basis information for this applied periodontology. Reflect on what you thought about the CLO’s at the beginning of the class and how you think about them now. Please look at the clos I provided above and make something up. Final Research Project Due by 11:59 pm on May 12, 2020. Students must prepare a research project on an information-related topic of their choice.  Some ideas for a project include: social networking and privacy issues; digital divide and rural areas; texting and driving, self-driving cars, cybersecurity etc. Late submissions will not be accepted unless there is a University approved excuse. The final project must include:

1. The title of the topic you are writing about.
2. A brief description of the topic at the beginning of the write-up.
3. Citations with annotations for the sources of information. See the grading rubric for the number of citations and the source of the information.  The format for the citation is the APA style.
4. Sources should include one or more of the following:

• A book or book chapter
• One online dictionary entry with the definition of one of your key words or phrases
• Three articles from a scholarly journal
• One article from a newspaper
• Authoritative Web pages
• A statistical resource using the a statistical database
• An authoritative podcast or web video
• Governmental data sources (.gov)
• For other sources check with professor

5. The final paper must be at least 8 pages of content not more than 10. This is NOT INCLUDING a cover page and the citations page.
6. The final paper must also include 3 visuals in the form of charts, tables, graphs or other visual that shows data or information to support a point in your paper. The visuals must take no more than 1/3 of the page.  Larger visuals must be reduced in size to fit to 1/3 of the page.

We will discuss various aspects of this research project extensively in class, and most of the homework assignments will assist in researching or preparing this research project. Your next three assignments will be as follows:

• Assignment #1: choose your topic and write your thesis statement. The statement should be 1 – 2 paragraphs and should be specific enough so that you can research the topic present good information and have a persuasive argument supporting the thesis.
• Assignment #2: Outline your final paper. You will be given an example of an outline that will assist you in developing the main body of your final paper.
• Assignment #3: Select your sources. Your sources of information will help support your thesis and make the fact-finding mission easier as you develop your paper.
