This piece is a very interesting artwork due to the combination of the different formal and technical aspects used by the artist. Specifically, it shows a certain sense of continuity through the method and materials used for its creation. It also presents a strong visual impact on its viewers due to the contrasting light and dark areas. Although the piece does not employ a simple and memorable overall pattern, it was able to compensate this through the use of variety and placement.

For example, it could be seen that the surfaces of the different units (i.e., jar) are varied and is almost realistic looking. It was also very much pleasing to the viewers’ eyes since the whole space is utilized efficiently with the objects in focus occupying a large proportion of the whole picture.

Chapter 5 is all about learning behavior. Each and everyone one of us has acquired a number of behaviors over many, many years. And whether these behaviors are good, bad or extremely ugly, they were learned through one of the three learning theories we’ve been discussing (at least according to learning theorists). The great thing about learning is that if a behavior can be learned, odds are that it can be unlearned. In this reflection paper your goal is to: What is the behavior? Identify ONE BAD HABIT that you have LEARNED but would like to change. Choose ONLY ONE bad habit and focus on that. Do NOT choose something more complex that could be considered a personality trait or an emotion–that would be difficult to explain using learning theory. Remember, Behaviorists focus on OBSERVABLE, MEASURABLE behavior. For example, don’t say “I’d like to change my anger,” or “shyness”, or “my tendency to please others”–these are NOT good choices. These are emotions/personality traits that are not likley to be learned through behaviorist theories. BAD choices for this paper = anger, anxiety, shyness, rudeness, people pleasing etc. GOOD EXAMPLES for this paper= procrastination, nail biting, smoking, drinking, overeating, too much TV/videogames/social media, etc. These can ALL be easily measured so that you can Something that you can easily see if you begin doing more or less of this habit. Then briefly describe the behavior and how it has become problematic in your life. What learning theory applies? Identify which theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) best explains how you acquired the behavior and why? Be sure to use terminology that is appropriate to that learning theory. The point of your essay is to demonstrate your understanding of these theories and your ability to apply them accurately, so you MUST be detailed. How can you unlearn this behavior? Now that you have explained how you acquired this behavior, use learning theory to discuss how you can extinguish the behavior. Which learning theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) will you use to help unlearn the behavior and how? What is the specific plan? Again, be sure to use appropriate learning theory terminology. It is necessary to demonstrate an understanding of the material in Chapter 5, Module 3. Grammar, Spelling and Organization. This is a college level ESSAY and should be organized in essay format. An essay is NEVER one long paragraph. You should carefully spell check and grammar check your work. Try this: Read your essay OUT LOUD and see how it sounds. If there are sentences that make you pause, then they are not good sentences—fix them. Remember you may also utilize the writing center for assistance–they are excellent and can set up online appointments to help review your work. They can proofread a draft and offer suggestions ONLINE. The following grading rubric will be used, so make sure that you have accurately addressed each component. Remember, the point of the essay is to demonstrate an understanding of the theories presented in Chapter 5/Module 3 and your ability to accurately apply those theories: Topic Area Points ONE Problematic Bad/Habit Clearly Identified, Detailed & Measurable /3 Acquisition: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) as the cause of your bad habit. Correctly explain how the behavior has caused the acquisition of your bad habit by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Extinction: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) to plan for extinction of your bad habit. Correctly explain how you will apply the theory by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Overall quality: Clarity, organization, grammar, spelling and APA citations if applicable). /3 Other Guidelines: Papers MUST be submitted here. Emailed papers or attachments will not be accepted. You SHOULD type your essay directly into the assignment (you can exit and return as many times as you like until you hit the submit button). You can cut and paste from a word document BUT keep in mind that if you cut and paste IT MAY CHANGE the formatting of your work. If this happens you should fix the formatting to ensure proper essay format before submitting. The essay should be no more than 2 pages (approximately 500 words) in length, using 12 point font, double spaced (if you type directly into Canvas, it will double space for you). When you mention a concept or theory in your paper, be sure to provide a definition/explanation from the textbook. When you take a definition/explanation from the textbook, do not copy it word for word; instead, paraphrase in your own words and cite the textbook in APA style (Hockenbury and Hockenbury, 2016, pg #). BEWARE of PLAGARISM.

Classification using cladograms worksheet (10 pts)You will turn in this worksheet. ________________________________________This section is designed as an easy points getter : )The path the course is now taking is to identify traits/characteristics and to think about how those traits have affected the species in question. For example, we have reviewed a bit about the changes in the skeletons of humans and other species. In those things we have noted skeletons have changed in a sequence overtime in that;● Human types have special adaptations which allow and require a two legged walk, aka facultative bipedalism.● There are isolation forces, geographic isolation, which can produce changes in animal types based on the ecosystem. For example,Foster’s Rule.● That variation of species is measurable as noted by Darwin’s Finches. Here in this section, there is a short lesson which gets the student acquainted with the process of biological classification. This is a small and simple lesson to give the idea of distinct traits, and mosaic species. This process can start with some basic assumptions, scientific ones, that things potentially get more complex as they change. It is important to note that a species can become simpler to survive but it also noted that some things become more complex. That being said we will start with the assumption that; things potentially get more complex as they change. Simpler is then older and more complex is newer. Note in following species, Andersenii aquaticus, is about first, the identification of the simply described simplest form of the organism, noted by the membranes (borders) and nothing else distinctive (Table1, Key concept 1.) This lesson assesses Mendel’s first law of: segregation. That is that offspring inherit their traits from parents. Therefore, related species had to get their traits from ones that existed before. It assesses evolutionary theory in showing that organisms tend towards complexity but at time entropy happens and things leave the family line. It shows the theory of phylogenetics ( gene types) and shows the relation in arbitrary time on the cladogram.

You will be expected to find current news articles pertaining to the current topics in the Strategy course and to describe issues related to the 3C’s and 4P’s. Most often, firms that are in the news are in the news for a “bad” reason – they’ve made a mistake and lost customer support which has led to declining purchases, negative word of mouth, etc. Using the week’s relevant material, I’d like for you to: 1. Tell me what the problem is (the firm is experiencing problems because…..) 2. Suggest 1-2 reasons for why the firm might be struggling (e.g., the firm is struggling because it produced a product that is inconsistent with the brand image or the firm is struggling because a competitor produced a better product) 3. Propose a reasonable way forward (i.e., what the firm can do to mitigate losses or to recover from losses in profits). By “reasonable,” I mean a solution the firm could actually implement in order to improve. This recommendation should be specific (not, “I recommend the firm research what consumers want or the firm needs to advertise on social media) and should follow logically from your analysis on the first two points. Full marks will be awarded to assignments with a specific, logical plan of action that makes sense given potential budget constraints. If you recommend overly expensive social media or advertising campaigns without considering the firm’s budget and resources, your recommendation is likely to be considered one that is superficial. That is, your recommendation should be feasible and reasonable, especially given the current economic climate with tight budgets. Your assignment should be no more than 2 pages, double spaced, 12 point font. If you prefer to write less, that is fine as long as you answer the questions put forth above. You will complete four of these assignments and I will drop your lowest score. Because of this policy, I will not accept late submissions. Perhaps unsurprisingly components 2 and 3 above are the most important parts of the assignment and will be weighed most heavily. All material should come from current issues in the news – I do not want you focusing on problems firms faced and “solved” a year ago, I want you to focus on the issues of that week. Trusted news sources include many major media outlets (WSJ, Financial Times, NY Times) as well as marketing trade publications (American Marketing Association, AdWeek). Please avoid using opinion pieces for the basis as they are not held to the same standards of journalistic integrity and might be biased. I will provide feedback on your written assignments – as such, they might take some time to grade, especially if I am unable to access consistent childcare during the pandemic (1-2 weeks). Please keep this in mind.

Case Study A (50%): Marlie carries on a business of selling new and used lamps. In 2009, she obtained an operating line of credit from the Bank of Nova Scotia. Marlie gave the bank a security interest in all her present and future assets. Jordan is a dealer in imported chandeliers. He and Marlie agree that he will give her possession of a dozen chandeliers to sell on his behalf. Marlie is not obliged to pay for the chandeliers unless she keeps them for more than 30 days. Marlie goes into default on her loan. The bank seizes all of her inventory, including the 12 chandeliers. Jordan finds out about the seizure and demands the chandeliers, saying that they are his, but the bank disputes this. Is Jordan entitled to get the chandeliers back? Structure your answer following the Marking Rubric below. Marking Rubric Marking Criteria Mark 1. One of his female employees has made a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission against Luke concerning gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace. The employee alleges that she and the other women lifeguards were recently forced to wear newly issued skimpy company bikinis instead of the previous one-piece suits while performing their lifeguarding duties. Those who refused would be given last choice on shifts (which, practically speaking, meant that they would be getting no shifts). The complainant protested to Luke but eventually gave in since it was too late in the summer to find another job. Additionally, the employee claims that, since the female staff was forced to wear the bikinis, Luke drops in constantly for site visits. His visits with females are more frequent and much longer lasting than with male staff. In fact, it is alleged that these visits have earned him the nickname of “Leering Luke.” Several female employees have told Luke that they find his behaviour unwelcome and are uncomfortable wearing the bikinis. Luke knows about his nickname but stands behind his policy. According to Luke, business has increased and, as a result, there has been more to “supervise” at each visit. Explain the concepts of gender discrimination and sexual harassment. Identify facts in the scenario which may support the employee’s claim and consider what other unstated facts, if proved, might also provide support. Identify a defense that Luke may raise. State your conclusion whether the situation involved discrimination or harassment, referring to the relevant facts and the strength of the defense. Please remember to make your own copy of this document and change the McKendrick J part of the filename to your last name and first initial. That way you can write on it and the filename is mostly done. ________________________________________ Fortunately, many college students can list the 6 to 8 steps of the scientific method but do not know how to apply the scientific method to other things. That is, it is one thing to answer a test, another thing to live the experience. It is often very difficult to comprehend the parts of science. This is especially true when urban centers provide all things for individuals. However, individuals even in groups that are provided learn a group function. That is, they acquire a process to accomplish things. The process is trial and error which is the basis of science. Therein, ● An argument can be made that in everyday life there is science. For example, a person may need to go from one place to another. ● They have to start with a basic idea of what is the best path. This idea is the hypothesis. Not necessarily true but something testable. ● They must then travel and collect information about the journey. The information if charted is data. The data can be used to make predictions about continuing the path daily or how a different path may be better. Ultimately-overtime by trial and error several paths are chosen, each one will have its own advantages, and there will now be choices; not one answer. ________________________________________ Therefore in a LAB course there may be more than one acceptable answer for a question but….that is based on the answers which must match the data presented. Meaning, it is not speculation. The path is decided by experience. A: The initial idea of; there is a path which will get to where I am going is a testable question. All science is based on this one criteria of being testable. B: Second, the path must be able to be taken by others in the future. Science must be repeatable. Therefore, if something is testable and repeatable then it is the realm of science. ________________________________________ Many things we encounter or rely on daily are science in principle and many are applied science. ● A science principle is some idea which is science based and possible. ● Applied science is the idea in action. ● The first is a hypothesis the second is the test/experiment The method of experiential ideas, and data collection is what science essentially is. Therefore, many have been doing science for sometime. However, some will forget the basics and use speculation as science when they are missing the data. Simply, no evidence or data equals no science. It is a simple yet important distinction. ________________________________________ Name:Class number and time: Prof: Date: anthbio.LAB- 3.0. mckendricksj.
