Chapter 5 is all about learning behavior. Each and everyone one of us has acquired a number of behaviors over many, many years. And whether these behaviors are good, bad or extremely ugly, they were learned through one of the three learning theories we’ve been discussing (at least according to learning theorists). The great thing about learning is that if a behavior can be learned, odds are that it can be unlearned. In this reflection paper your goal is to: What is the behavior? Identify ONE BAD HABIT that you have LEARNED but would like to change. Choose ONLY ONE bad habit and focus on that. Do NOT choose something more complex that could be considered a personality trait or an emotion–that would be difficult to explain using learning theory. Remember, Behaviorists focus on OBSERVABLE, MEASURABLE behavior. For example, don’t say “I’d like to change my anger,” or “shyness”, or “my tendency to please others”–these are NOT good choices. These are emotions/personality traits that are not likley to be learned through behaviorist theories. BAD choices for this paper = anger, anxiety, shyness, rudeness, people pleasing etc. GOOD EXAMPLES for this paper= procrastination, nail biting, smoking, drinking, overeating, too much TV/videogames/social media, etc. These can ALL be easily measured so that you can Something that you can easily see if you begin doing more or less of this habit. Then briefly describe the behavior and how it has become problematic in your life. What learning theory applies? Identify which theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) best explains how you acquired the behavior and why? Be sure to use terminology that is appropriate to that learning theory. The point of your essay is to demonstrate your understanding of these theories and your ability to apply them accurately, so you MUST be detailed. How can you unlearn this behavior? Now that you have explained how you acquired this behavior, use learning theory to discuss how you can extinguish the behavior. Which learning theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, or social-cognitive learning theory) will you use to help unlearn the behavior and how? What is the specific plan? Again, be sure to use appropriate learning theory terminology. It is necessary to demonstrate an understanding of the material in Chapter 5, Module 3. Grammar, Spelling and Organization. This is a college level ESSAY and should be organized in essay format. An essay is NEVER one long paragraph. You should carefully spell check and grammar check your work. Try this: Read your essay OUT LOUD and see how it sounds. If there are sentences that make you pause, then they are not good sentences—fix them. Remember you may also utilize the writing center for assistance–they are excellent and can set up online appointments to help review your work. They can proofread a draft and offer suggestions ONLINE. The following grading rubric will be used, so make sure that you have accurately addressed each component. Remember, the point of the essay is to demonstrate an understanding of the theories presented in Chapter 5/Module 3 and your ability to accurately apply those theories: Topic Area Points ONE Problematic Bad/Habit Clearly Identified, Detailed & Measurable /3 Acquisition: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) as the cause of your bad habit. Correctly explain how the behavior has caused the acquisition of your bad habit by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Extinction: Choose ONE theory (classical conditioning, operant conditioning OR social-learning theory) to plan for extinction of your bad habit. Correctly explain how you will apply the theory by using specific, detailed and correct terminology from the theory. /7 Overall quality: Clarity, organization, grammar, spelling and APA citations if applicable). /3 Other Guidelines: Papers MUST be submitted here. Emailed papers or attachments will not be accepted. You SHOULD type your essay directly into the assignment (you can exit and return as many times as you like until you hit the submit button). You can cut and paste from a word document BUT keep in mind that if you cut and paste IT MAY CHANGE the formatting of your work. If this happens you should fix the formatting to ensure proper essay format before submitting. The essay should be no more than 2 pages (approximately 500 words) in length, using 12 point font, double spaced (if you type directly into Canvas, it will double space for you). When you mention a concept or theory in your paper, be sure to provide a definition/explanation from the textbook. When you take a definition/explanation from the textbook, do not copy it word for word; instead, paraphrase in your own words and cite the textbook in APA style (Hockenbury and Hockenbury, 2016, pg #). BEWARE of PLAGARISM.

Write a 750-1000 word analysis of “Case Study: Fetal Abnormality.” Be sure to address the following questions: Which theory or theories are being used by Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson to determine the moral status of the fetus? Explain. How does the theory determine or influence each of their recommendation for action? What theory do you agree with? How would that theory determine or influence the recommendation for action? Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. Case Study: Fetal Abnormality Jessica is a 30-year-old immigrant from Mexico City. She and her husband Marco have been in the U.S. for the last three years and have finally earned enough money to move out of their Aunt Maria’s home and into an apartment of their own. They are both hard workers. Jessica works 50 hours a week at a local restaurant and Marco has been contracting side jobs in construction. Six months before their move to an apartment, Jessica finds out she is pregnant. Four months later, Jessica and Marco arrive at the county hospital, a large, public, nonteaching hospital. A preliminary ultrasound indicates a possible abnormality with the fetus. Further scans are conducted and it is determined that the fetus has a rare condition in which it has not developed any arms, and will not likely develop them. There is also a 25% chance that the fetus may have Down syndrome. Dr. Wilson, the primary attending physician, is seeing Jessica for the first time, since she and Marco did not receive earlier prenatal care over concerns about finances. Marco insists that Dr. Wilson refrain from telling Jessica the scan results, assuring him that he will tell his wife himself when she is emotionally ready for the news. While Marco and Dr. Wilson are talking in another room, Aunt Maria walks into the room with a distressed look on her face. She can tell that something is wrong and inquires of Dr. Wilson. After hearing of the diagnosis, she walks out of the room wailing loudly and praying aloud. Marco and Dr. Wilson continue their discussion, and Dr. Wilson insists that he has an obligation to Jessica as his patient and that she has a right to know the diagnosis of the fetus. He furthermore is intent on discussing all relevant factors and options regarding the next step, including abortion. Marco insists on taking some time to think of how to break the news to Jessica, but Dr. Wilson, frustrated with the direction of the conversation, informs the husband that such a choice is not his to make. Dr. Wilson proceeds back across the hall, where he walks in on Aunt Maria awkwardly praying with Jessica and phoning the priest. At that point, Dr. Wilson gently but briefly informs Jessica of the diagnosis, and lays out the option for abortion as a responsible medical alternative, given the quality of life such a child would have. Jessica looks at him and struggles to hold back her tears. Jessica is torn between her hopes of a better socioeconomic position and increased independence, along with her conviction that all life is sacred. Marco will support Jessica in whatever decision she makes, but is finding it difficult not to view the pregnancy and the prospects of a disabled child as a burden and a barrier to their economic security and plans. Dr. Wilson lays out all of the options but clearly makes his view known that abortion is “scientifically” and medically a wise choice in this situation. Aunt Maria pleads with Jessica to follow through with the pregnancy and allow what “God intends” to take place, and urges Jessica to think of her responsibility as a mother. 70.0 %Content 25.0 %Determination of Moral Status Theory/Theories that determine the moral status of the fetus are incorrectly identified. The next step in the process of acquiring information is to move past what we can think of onto what we can see. That is, we have the way things are done and how to do them but we have not yet touched the work. In this case, we begin by reviewing some information regarding a trend towards bipedalism based on an arbitrary scale. That is, we use diagnostic features we can see and judge for ourselves. Although some may believe arbitrary assessments to be vague or assumptive, this step is sometimes used by those who know about the subject. That is we have spent many weeks getting to the point where you are trained observers. That is what you see matters and you will now “show what you can do with what you know.” This quick step is used to give immediate feedback to guide the path of inquiry. For example, an arbitrary scale can give values which can be interpreted as useful or not. The values can also be added to a graph which may show connections, divergence, and trends. Although the arbitrary assessments may be cursory they can be used to help make predictions. The predictions can aid in a direction of inquiry such as future experimental design to pursue a lead or quickly and simply rule out an assumption. An assumption in science can be either a premise for an idea based on experience, or a prediction based on prior data. That is, the premise from an informed previous statement can lead to inquiry. Informed statements come from experience or existing data. Therefore, an assumption in science is very different from how assumptions are used in daily activities by many non-scientists. Here we may assume that the diagnostics features listed in the drawing plantigrade, digitigrade, unguligrade highlight things of interest in relation to patterns of locomotion, in this case distinctions of speed and power compared to bipedalism. Grade scale x/30 x 20 = score 12.1. Bipedalis.Start with an ABC about each foot grade. Now that we have gone past the basics and the surprise that other animals have very similar skeletal structures it is time to review the basics of locomotion. Later, other forms of locomotion will be investigated in depth, but, for now it is wise to stay with what is familiar and the basic three. On the drawing for anthbiolab.mckendricksj.footgrades.plantigrade.digitigrade.unguligrade above, observe the normal standing postures and note the following for each species A, B,and C: (3 points) On the drawing above note the angle of the hip to the femur by the scribed line(s) down to the caudal line (a line towards the tail) of the hip in connection to the femoral line (of the femur). Estimate the angles of hip to femur by selecting the answer(s) which fits (delete the wrong answers) for each species: Species A what is angle 1 = Near to 180 deg Near to 115 deg. Near to 95 deg. Species B what is angle 1 = Near to 180 deg Near to 115 deg. Near to 95 deg. Species C what is angle 1 = Near to 180 deg Near to 115 deg. Near to 95 deg. Select the species one or more which has that by selecting the answer(s) which fits (delete the wrong answers) best for power related to speed and jumping: A: human B: Dog C: Deer (1 point) If a species has a calcaneus not in contact with the ground and has a longer length relative to the tibia, then they are able to have a burst of speed and jump easily exceeding what humans can do. Select the species, one or more, which has that characteristic by selecting the answer(s) which fits (delete the wrong answers) best for power related to speed and jumping: A: human B: Dog C: Deer (1 point) If a species has a relatively longer calcaneus length when compared to the other species then they are better at jumping without a run. Select the species one or more which has that by selecting the answer(s) which fits (delete the wrong answers) best for power related to speed and jumping: A: human B: Dog C: Deer (1 point) If a species has pedal phalanges in relation to the metatarsals which are not in line and have less contact overlength to the ground then they are able to have a burst of speed and jump easily exceeding what humans can do. Select the species, one or more ,which has that characteristic by selecting the one answer which fits (delete the wrong answers) best for power related to speed and jumping: A: human B: Dog C: Deer 10. (1 point) If a species has the tibia in relation to the pedal phalanges which are in excess of 90 degrees then they are able to have a burst of speed and jump easily exceeding what humans can do. Your task this week is to choose your favorite course concept or term that we’ve covered thus far. You might choose a term that you find particularly interesting, something that you didn’t know before, something that’s a little unique…whatever you want. The only term you cannot choose for this exercise is “globalization.” Anything else is fair game. Once you’ve chosen your term or concept, I’d like you to create a meme that reflects the concept. Include your meme in your post. Then, briefly (in one paragraph) explain your meme. Why did you pick this term, what are you trying to convey in your meme. Be original and creative. You won’t be able to see your classmates posts until you post so duplicate concepts will not be penalized. Your meme and explanation paragraph must be your original work. Term: Free Trade
