Critical Reading Response #2 – Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution
Summary:
Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence is perhaps one of the most crucial works that led to the creation of the modern-day United States’ government. In this document, Jefferson discussed the reasons why the colonies (prior becoming the United States) should be given the independence and freedom from Britain.
Specifically, Jefferson believes that people in the colonies are entitled to basic human rights such as the right to freedom and liberty as well as the right to form their own government. This is in response to the different atrocities and ill-treatments that some of the colonies have experienced under the King’s rule (Harrison). Rights as used by Jefferson – despite being in its early stages back then – are deemed to be the things or actions that are inalienable and indispensable.
Comparison Paragraphs:
In comparison to Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution has affirmed the independence which the United States (once a colony) has been longing for. In fact, a closer analysis of both texts would show that the manner of which how the words and phrases have been chosen shows the ‘desire and longing’ to protect their rights on the one hand, and the affirmation of these inalienable rights as a rule of law in the other.
On the one hand, Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence states that;

Instructions: The next step in the process of acquiring information is to move past what we can think of onto what we can see. That is, we have the way things are done and how to do them but we have not yet touched the work. In this case, we begin by reviewing some information regarding a trend towards bipedalism based on an arbitrary scale. That is, we use diagnostic features we can see and judge for ourselves.
Although some may believe arbitrary assessments to be vague or assumptive, this step is sometimes used by those who know about the subject. That is we have spent many weeks getting to the point where you are trained observers. That is what you see matters and you will now “show what you can do with what you know.” This quick step is used to give immediate feedback to guide the path of inquiry. For example, an arbitrary scale can give values which can be interpreted as useful or not.
The values can also be added to a graph which may show connections, divergence, and trends. Although the arbitrary assessments may be cursory they can be used to help make predictions. The predictions can aid in a direction of inquiry such as future experimental design to pursue a lead or quickly and simply rule out an assumption.
An assumption in science can be either a premise for an idea based on experience, or a prediction based on prior data. That is, the premise from an informed previous statement can lead to inquiry. Informed statements come from experience or existing data. Therefore, an assumption in science is very different from how assumptions are used in daily activities by many non-scientists.
Here we may assume that the diagnostics features listed in the drawing plantigrade, digitigrade, unguligrade highlight things of interest in relation to patterns of locomotion, in this case distinctions of speed and power compared to bipedalism.

The very first sentence of the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, though it seems to focus on men, raises the question: what about the women in the novel, the prospective wives of these men “in want of a wife”? If such a single man “must be in want of a wife,” what is a single woman in want of, when it comes to marriage? In light of this first sentence of Pride and Prejudice, discuss the situation, attitude, and actions of the following four women in the book, with regard to courtship and marriage: Elizabeth Bennet, Charlotte Lucas, Jane Bennet, and Lydia Bennet. Remember to talk about each of the four women in four different paragraphs, meaning one paragraph per woman. Consider the two meanings of the word “want,” the thinking of the women about marriage, and their situation with respect to social position and “fortune.” Concentrate on the most interesting cases, while considering secondary characters as they shed light on the main cases. 2. Evaluate the LBO proposal and determine the value of the firm if it undertakes the LBO
and compare this to the existing value of the firm. Your valuation analysis (based on the
assumptions above) should be the bulk of your report and serve to answer this
question. Provide sensitivity analyses.
3. Quantify the incremental effects of the LBO (as compared to no LBO) on Congoleum as a
whole, and attribute portions of the sizable purchase premium to: the cost savings in
corporate expenses, the step-up of asset values for depreciation, and the interest tax
shields. In addition, if any of the value added from the LBO is unexplained by these three
factors, explain where you think this additional value may be coming from.
4. Quantify the gains/losses to the various parties involved in this deal, and render an
opinion as to the appropriateness of the $38 offer price received by old shareholders.
