Nurses play a vital role in the prevention and treatment of abuse. This is particularly true for children and elderlies who do not have the courage or ability to report any kind of abuse and defend themselves from such. Accordingly, some of the most common signs of abuse that healthcare providers could look for are emotional, social, economic, and physical symptoms.
First, physical symptoms or characteristics are one of the most notable signs of any abuse. If the child or elderly have recurrent bruises and abrasions, then this signals the possibility of recurrent physical abuse (Clarysse, 2018).

Second, social isolation or difficulty in socializing with others is another common characteristic of abuse. This is because children and elderlies who are abused could tend to fear socializing with others thinking that they might also hurt them or that their abusers might get angry with them (Wydall & Zerk, 2017).
Third, children and elderly who are abused could also be characterized by a lack of decent belongings or money to buy their basic wants and needs. Although a healthcare provider must be wary of the family’s socio-economic status, if the family is relatively well-off but the child is wearing worn-down clothes, this could be an indicator of abuse too.

Select one of the following options to submit for the Life Skills & Content Integration Plan. Label the assignment with the title of the option you selected. Option 1: Mathematics-Oriented Career Education Planning Chart Complete the Mathematics-Oriented Career Education Planning Chart on page 358 of Math Instruction for Students with Learning Problems for your case study student. Even if your student is in elementary school, this chart is still applicable. As a teacher, you may decide some of the categories under the subdomain column, but some might be guided by the student’s interests. Use the Mathematics Content Codes on page 230 of Math Instruction for Students with Learning Problems. Note. You may reformat the chart to fit your needs as long as it is clear, organized, and contains the same headings. Option 2: Content Integration Planning Chart Create a chart similar to Figure 7.3 on page 214 of Math Instruction for Students with Learning Problems for your case study student. Decide which subject you want to integrate with mathematics to design a unit. The Unit Problem must be like the example: a question that is open ended, requiring investigation, without a set answer. This does not have to be connected to the unit plan or previous lesson ideas for your case study student. Keep in mind the difference between a concept and a skill. Note. You may reformat the chart to fit your needs as long as it is clear, organized, and contains: A Unit Problem and three questions with corresponding concepts from both mathematics and another subject. Write a 750-1000 word analysis of “Case Study: Fetal Abnormality.” Be sure to address the following questions: Which theory or theories are being used by Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson to determine the moral status of the fetus? Explain. How does the theory determine or influence each of their recommendation for action? What theory do you agree with? How would that theory determine or influence the recommendation for action? Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. Case Study: Fetal Abnormality Jessica is a 30-year-old immigrant from Mexico City. She and her husband Marco have been in the U.S. for the last three years and have finally earned enough money to move out of their Aunt Maria’s home and into an apartment of their own. They are both hard workers. Jessica works 50 hours a week at a local restaurant and Marco has been contracting side jobs in construction. Six months before their move to an apartment, Jessica finds out she is pregnant. Four months later, Jessica and Marco arrive at the county hospital, a large, public, nonteaching hospital. A preliminary ultrasound indicates a possible abnormality with the fetus. Further scans are conducted and it is determined that the fetus has a rare condition in which it has not developed any arms, and will not likely develop them. There is also a 25% chance that the fetus may have Down syndrome. Dr. Wilson, the primary attending physician, is seeing Jessica for the first time, since she and Marco did not receive earlier prenatal care over concerns about finances. Marco insists that Dr. Wilson refrain from telling Jessica the scan results, assuring him that he will tell his wife himself when she is emotionally ready for the news. While Marco and Dr. Wilson are talking in another room, Aunt Maria walks into the room with a distressed look on her face. She can tell that something is wrong and inquires of Dr. Wilson. After hearing of the diagnosis, she walks out of the room wailing loudly and praying aloud. Marco and Dr. Wilson continue their discussion, and Dr. Wilson insists that he has an obligation to Jessica as his patient and that she has a right to know the diagnosis of the fetus. He furthermore is intent on discussing all relevant factors and options regarding the next step, including abortion. Marco insists on taking some time to think of how to break the news to Jessica, but Dr. Wilson, frustrated with the direction of the conversation, informs the husband that such a choice is not his to make. Dr. Wilson proceeds back across the hall, where he walks in on Aunt Maria awkwardly praying with Jessica and phoning the priest. At that point, Dr. Wilson gently but briefly informs Jessica of the diagnosis, and lays out the option for abortion as a responsible medical alternative, given the quality of life such a child would have. Jessica looks at him and struggles to hold back her tears. Jessica is torn between her hopes of a better socioeconomic position and increased independence, along with her conviction that all life is sacred. Marco will support Jessica in whatever decision she makes, but is finding it difficult not to view the pregnancy and the prospects of a disabled child as a burden and a barrier to their economic security and plans. Dr. Wilson lays out all of the options but clearly makes his view known that abortion is “scientifically” and medically a wise choice in this situation. Aunt Maria pleads with Jessica to follow through with the pregnancy and allow what “God intends” to take place, and urges Jessica to think of her responsibility as a mother. 70.0 %Content 25.0 %Determination of Moral Status Theory/Theories that determine the moral status of the fetus are incorrectly identified. Rennaiscience (History course) Immanuel Kant dares you to show what you know about early modern Europe. He asks that you focus solely on the materials from this course. Kant freaks out when he reads things taken from random websites or other material not assigned in the course. The idea is to think about what we did specifically in this class. (For example, ONLY FROM TEXTBOOK LIKE THE EUROPEAN WORLD, LIVES UNCOVERED, http://www.humanrights.com/what-are-human-rights.html, http://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/etc), Kant politely asks that you write at least 550 to 750 words (2+ to 3 pages, typed and double-spaced) on one of the topics below (a little more is fine too). This is a thought essay but do try to have a clear thesis and provide some examples or evidence from course texts where appropriate. 1. Did life for the “average” person change in fundamental ways between 1400 and 1800? If you took the average man or woman, say a farmer/peasant, craftsperson, small-time merchant, or their wife, and compared their lives in 1400 and in 1800 how much do you think their lives had changed? What aspects of life changed the most, and what changed the least? You can think in terms of their everyday lives, their work, their leisure, their homes, their education, occupational opportunities and the like. How might they view things like religion, politics or medicine? Was the average person’s life fundamentally the same or different in important and essential ways? You can focus on a single “type” or look at more than one but focus has advantages. Be clear about gender, status and profession as you think about this—as well as where the person lived. You can make comparisons to others whose lives might have changed more or less (in the same time period). 2. What was not modern about early modern Europe? Some scholars view the period from roughly 1400 to 1800 as marking the beginning of modernity, hence the period is called early modern. Others believe it is more useful to think of the period as an extension of earlier history, and that industrialization marks the real break toward modernity. The period did witness many changes but these do not necessarily mark out a linear movement toward modernity. So write about the ways the period was not modern. 3. By 1800 Europe had emerged “as the major driving force behind global developments.” (Kümin, 2nd ed, p 362) In what specific ways was Europe a driving force in the world by 1800? How had Europe come to play this role? What were the limitations of European influence? Be sure to include that last point and be careful to look at expansion only up to 1800 and not include the extensive colonization of the nineteenth century in your answer.
