Education in the United States – Should it be Free?

Ever since the creation of the first educational institution in Greece back in 387 BC, people believed that the most secure ticket to success is education. Titles that denote attainment in the academic field has been honored and given more chances to succeed socially and financially in society. However, during the dawn of the industrial and digital age, it could be seen that some of the most successful people in the world do not have the best education, the best grades, or even the highest educational attainment, among others. In line with this, this would like to focus on answering the question as to whether providing free college education is the best choice for the US government. All in all, the author believes that although free education is essential, it must not freely be given to everyone but rather be subjected to stringent tests that prioritize the deserving and those in the lower classes.

Free Education in the United States

One of the reasons why free education should not be given freely to everyone is that it does not assure success. In one study conducted by the US Department of Commerce (2020), the researchers found that even though higher educational attainment means better job security and higher employment rate (i.e., 57% for less than high school; 87% for Bachelor’s degree or higher) the fact remains that not all individuals that have high educational attainment could be employed or moreso succeed in life. Accordingly, it could be seen that some of the most successful people have achieved success even without having a good education or even before completing their studies. Some examples of these individuals are Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg, among others. Their lives are a testament that one can get successful even without good educational attainment.

The criminal trial process has many components. In this assignment, you explore real-life examples of the criminal trial process in two different types of trials. Search the Internet for trials using parameters such as but not limited to “watch criminal trials online,” or visit the Wild About Trial website. https://wildabouttrial(dot)com/ Compare TWO (2) trials. If possible, compare a murder trial with one involving another major felony. Include the parties represented in each trial (i.e., plaintiff and defendant). Write 350- to 700-word comparison in which you: Summarize what each trial was about. Identify the type of court the trials were held in (refer to Ch. 1 for types of courts in the United States). Describe as many of the steps of each trial as you can (refer to Ch. 13 for the steps/process). Explain the similarities and differences between the two trials you selected. Identify as many of the actors of each trial as you can who played a role in the steps of the trial process. What were their roles? Cite a minimum of 2 sources (one source for each trial). Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

It’s a concert report and here is the requirement: “The objective of this paper is to connect what you hear during the concert to the content of the course and your own personal/cultural experiences, and to also attempt to express in words your general reaction to the music. You may describe how the music “made you feel,” but always follow up that statement with why you believe the music made you feel that way. In a similar vein, stay away from subjective comments concerning whether you liked or disliked the music, and instead use the information we’ve discussed during the course to make informed statement about the music itself. You are also encouraged to take notes during the performances if possible (only with pen and paper, absolutely not with a laptop) and, more importantly, research the pieces being performed before you attend the concert. You can then ask yourself, among other questions, are the pieces being performed indicative of the time period in which they were composed? A piece composed in the 1700’s probably won’t have the same aural properties as a piece composed in 2018. Why is that? The most important thing to do during a concert is to ask the question: why? If the chorus of a song gets you really excited, or if the slow movement of a sonata “sounds” morose, try to identify what it is about the collection of sounds that works or doesn’t work using the information we’ve learned in class. Sometimes you may be able to identify the exact reasons a passage has certain aural properties, but sometimes you won’t, in which case you should either try to make an educated guess as to what the music is “doing,” or try to make an educated guess on why you perceive the piece a certain way.” Try to use some music vocabulary in this report, like “dynamic”, “Tempo”, “Major key or minor key”

Urinalysis This is a Hands-On Labs exercise that explores the characteristics of urine and what can cause those characteristics to change. You will be doing a visual inspection of urine and testing it with urinalysis test strips to assess the concentration of various compounds that may be present. Procedure Follow the directions for the Urinalysis experiment. Perform both parts: fasting and drinking distilled water. Record the data from the visual inspection and from the test strips in tables. Use that data to write a report, following the directions below for submission. **You do not need to submit the Lab Report Assistant**. Create a Report Use the following outline to describe the data from your lab in a report. Label each portion of the lab as described below. Introduction: Start with a broad discussion of urine formation, and then narrow your focus to the question(s) that you are trying to answer. Conclude the introduction with a hypothesis—a statement that reflects what you believe the outcome of this lab will be. It’s a good idea to include a discussion of how you think each characteristic of urine tested will change between the fasting and distilled water consumption parts. Material List: Identify all items that you used and the exact quantities, as applicable. This may be a very short section. Methods: Describe how you conducted the experiment, including any safety precautions you took while performing the lab. Be sure to include any changes that you made to the original instructions. Did you use different exercises? This should be a short, paraphrased version of the methods from the lab. Do not copy from the lab; Turnitin will highlight it as plagiarism. Results/Data: Create a table or a figure that reflects/compares the results of your experiment. Discussion: Review your results and determine if your experiment supports or refutes your hypothesis. Explain why. Then expand your discussion to address why and how your body creates the changes you observed as you increased the level of hydration. What effect does fasting have on the results? Be specific and give details. Conclusion: End with a section describing something that really intrigued you; identify errors that may have impacted your results, or note errors in the lab itself; and provide recommendations for future labs. Requirements: If you are doing the report, it should be 4-5 pages long, not including the title page. Reference at least two journal articles. Include a title page and references at the end. Discussion – Week 1 (preferred related to Psychiatric care since I work as a Psych Nurse) COLLAPSE Defining Quality As health care consumers, we all expect quality care and positive outcomes. It is important as professionals that we meet these demands of health care consumers. Consider the work of the major theorists you examined in this week’s Resources, and think about how these theories apply to your own experience as a health care customer and/or practitioner. By Day 3 Post your definition of quality, and apply it to the work of one major quality theorist (e.g., Donabedian, Juran, Deming, Triple Aim (IHI) – Berwick). Identify a practice problem that you have had some experience with as a customer or as a practitioner, and explain how eliminating wasteful practices could have improved the experience. Include how your definition of quality applies to that experience. Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature. Your posts need to be written at the capstone level (see checklist). Notes for Initial Post: A 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old). (Refer to AWE Checklist, Capstone) By Day 7 Read two or more of your colleagues’ postings from the Discussion question. Respond with a comment that asks for clarification, provides support for, or contributes additional information to two or more of your colleagues’ postings. Post a Discussion entry on three different days of the week. See the Discussion Rubric found in the Course Information area. Here are two situations that working journalists might face. Choose one and discuss what is involved in a way that demonstrates your knowledge of media law and ethics (5 PTS each) A. You are a political reporter. A candidate for the State Senate had a nervous breakdown ten years ago. The candidate’s opponent has slipped you a notarized hospital document confirming this fact. In an essay that demonstrates your journalism knowledge, discuss whether or not you should print the story and the legal and ethical reasons why. Include the factors involved, the risks if you don’t print it, and the risks if you do print it. B. Your friend is the lead singer of a rock group. Despite your objections, your editor insists that you review their performance tonight. But at the show, your friend is drunk; it’s obvious to everyone and it’s a terrible show. If you write an honest review, you could ruin his reputation. He asks you to come back the next night, when he promises to stay sober and do a great show. Explain what you would do and the legal and ethical factors that would influence your decision—why you should go, why you shouldn’t go, what you would ultimately write, and what the consequences could be.

It is a well-known fact that people need to exercise to prevent being afflicted with diseases, especially those that are caused by unhealthy lifestyle. However, keeping an exercise routine for a college student is easily said than done. On the one hand, this is due to the number of academic requirements that we have to do every day. On the other hand, this is also due to the social life and other extra-curricular activities that consume most of our idle time. In other words, while exercising is noted in the calendars of most college students, this usually gets relegated when there is any spare time after everything else. However, what I realized lately was that exercising need not be done and scheduled as a whole day activity per week. Instead, I saw some videos saying that by doing small but continuous physical efforts every day (e.g., walking to school instead of riding the bus) one can experience the benefits of a one-time-per-week routine that others are doing. About this, I also realized that this kind of method could also be done in other aspects of life such as dieting by changing parts of what you eat little by little and not in one fell sweep. In fact, for four weeks now I make sure to walk going to school and other places and reduce the number of calories that I eat by changing portions of my meals to fruits. While the results might not be that good as having a strenuous workout routine, I believe that this is doing me well given that I have a very tight schedule. All in all, I think that by doing things little by little, I could then convince myself to increase the strenuousness of my activities little by little.

Chris Rock: Tamborine 1) Explain the context of your primary text (what are the various issues at stake, positions people take, and relevance to our discussions?) 2) What’s your thinking so far on that text? (remember that that thinking may change as you conduct your research) 3) Discuss the kinds of research you expect to have to do in order to explore that topic more thoroughly (will you be looking exclusively at scholarly journals? Are there relevant popular resources you may use?). While your particular primary and secondary texts are up to you, everyone must select from within the following three umbrella topics: • The empowerment or disenfranchisement of particular social groups through the use of comedy, including race, class, and/or gender o Consider comics who take on race, class, gender, sexuality explicitly in their work and examine how they engage those topics and to what end. • The rhetorical value of irony o Consider comics like Stephen Colbert who employ irony as their primary method of advancing an argument – what are they able to accomplish through those ends and are there limits? • Rhetorical transgression o Consider comics who “go too far.” What can an examination of how a particular comic has gone too far help us understand our culture and society? What’s the difference between Tig Notaro and Dave Chappelle?

It is the leading cause of death in the ages 15-45 and has the greatest affect on the poverty stricken regions. Several risk factors for TB are HIV, lack of knowledge, urban congestion and pollution, barriers in health care, and cultural differences. TB causes large economic losses, financial burdens to poor families, losses in education, and even familial rejection of infected women. To address TB we must promote DOT in the poorest sectors to improve knowledge and treatment, ensure efficient technology for diagnosis, and target HIV prevalent areas for proper treatment for co-infected patients.
