Ethics and Trust in Critical Thinking Decisions
1. Imagine you’re thinking about buying a new car. Before making this important decision, you’ll want to gather as much information as possible to help make the right choice. Determine the level of trust that you would place in information provided by the following sources: a salesman at the car lot, the dealer’s Website, social media (i.e. Facebook), an associate from work, and a close friend. Discuss the key factors involved in assessing the amount of trust that you put into each source.
2. Imagine you’re able to persuade another person. You sincerely believe that your position is 100% right. Explain whether you would slant information in such a way as to make your point(s) seem more credible. Discuss the primary ethical dilemmas that this scenario could cause for both you and the person whom you are trying to persuade.
The Value of Critical Thinking
3. First – Give your opinion on whether being an effective critical thinker makes decision making easier or more challenging. Talk about concrete decisions you had to or will have to make. Justify your response.
4. Second – Consider the following statement: “The major difference between a successful person and one that is not successful is that the successful person, over time, tends to make better decisions than the less successful person.” Discuss whether you believe this statement to be true. Explain the fundamental ways in which effectively applying critical thinking concepts has helped you to become more successful.

In buying a new car, I would most probably ask a close friend and an associate from work when choosing which one should I buy. Of course, this is considering that they know a thing about which cars would be the most efficient one. If not, then I would most likely base my decision on social media and the dealer’s website. Asking from a salesman would be my last priority. The reason why I chose this sequence is that in buying a car, I considered the interests of those people and decided to ask people who would not benefit for my purchase since those who would not give me what’s best for me, but rather what’s best for them.

In arguing, I would not slant any information to convince other people. I believe that arguing happens for the sake of knowledge, and slanting information would not achieve that goal. Instead, I would use other tools of persuasion (e.g., ethos, pathos, and logos) to convince them.

Assessment Description This assignment comprises two components, a behavioral health prevention program design and a behavioral health prevention summary report, addressing the behavioral and psychological factors promoting healthy living and disease prevention. Part 1: Behavioral Health Prevention Program Design a behavioral health prevention program that outlines the program and addresses the following: Program mission and vision, including theoretical knowledge of working with individuals and families in the community. Stakeholders involved in the program: patients; paraprofessionals; therapists; educational institutions; public health, government, and community agencies; the local community; etc. Roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Behavioral and psychological barriers that impede behavior modification and disease prevention: role of behavior and prevention in maintaining health. Recommendations for behavior modification and disease prevention: factors promoting healthy living and factors promoting disease prevention. Use the GCU Library databases; include two to four outside scholarly resources for evidentiary support. Part 2: Behavioral Health Prevention Summary Report Write a summary report (1,250-1,500 words) about the information gleaned from the behavioral health prevention program design process. Include information on the program’s mission and vision, the stakeholders, behavior and psychological barriers, and recommendations for behavior modifications. Use two to three scholarly resources to support your explanations. For example, if you chose a specific program design or intervention does the literature support this as being an effective program? Was it successful and how do you know it was successful? Have other prevention programs found measureable outcomes that you plan to replicate? How does your program build on a successful program to target the community you’re serving? Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Ms. A. is an apparently healthy 26-year-old white woman. Since the beginning of the current golf season, Ms. A has noted increased shortness of breath and low levels of energy and enthusiasm. These symptoms seem worse during her menses. Today, while playing in a golf tournament at a high, mountainous course, she became light-headed and was taken by her golfing partner to the emergency clinic. The attending physician’s notes indicated a temperature of 98 degrees F, an elevated heart rate and respiratory rate, and low blood pressure. Ms. A states, “Menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal have been a problem for 10-12 years, and I take 1,000 mg of aspirin every 3 to 4 hours for 6 days during menstruation.” During the summer months, while playing golf, she also takes aspirin to avoid “stiffness in my joints.” Laboratory values are as follows: Hemoglobin = 8 g/dl Hematocrit = 32% Erythrocyte count = 3.1 x 10/mm RBC smear showed microcytic and hypochromic cells Reticulocyte count = 1.5% Other laboratory values were within normal limits. Question Considering the circumstances and the preliminary workup, what type of anemia does Ms. A most likely have? In an essay of 500-750 words, explain your answer and include rationale.

Week 2: Measurement One of the keystone concepts in modern quality improvement science is that of measurement. An often heard management adage is “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” Measurement can come in many different forms, including statistics, charts, and patient satisfaction surveys. This week we begin to explore measurement in health care quality improvement, and we will be introduced to various tools used for measurement. Learning Objectives Students will: Analyze an example of quality that was measured, assessed, and improved Apply simple data collection techniques to a measurement problem Design a data collection mechanism for an aspect of quality Interpret a control chart Synthesize the purpose, methods, and findings from the evidence-based literature that relate to a practice problem Photo Credit: [Anthia Cumming]/[E+]/Getty Images Learning Resources Required Readings Spath, P. Retrieved from http://www(dot)med(dot)unc(dot)edu/cce/files/education-training/The%20run%20chart%20a%20simple%20analytical%20tool.pdf Discussion: Applying Measurement Tools One example of a measurement tool is the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) comprehensive care measures. Review the eight components of HEDIS comprehensive diabetes care; then consider the following scenario. You are a staff nurse working in a private primary care practice. It is a small practice with 2 MDs (internists), 2 nurses, 1 medical assistant, and an office staff for billing. There are approximately 1,000 patients in the practice. You have had no EHR until the last year, but all charts are manual, historically. Your physicians are starting to inquire about quality incentives, particularly regarding patients with diabetes. By Day 3 Take on the role of the staff nurse in the scenario, and post an explanation of how you would go about finding out how many diabetics are in your practice and how many meet all 8 components of HEDIS comprehensive diabetes care. Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature. Your posts need to be written at the capstone level (see checklist). Notes Initial Post: This should be a 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old). (Refer to AWE Checklist, Capstone) By Day 7 Read two or more of your colleagues’ postings from the Discussion question. Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ postings with a critique of their data mechanisms. Explain whether the data mechanism is practical, how long it might take, any alternatives you might suggest, and/or any electronic data collection possibilities that might apply. Post a Discussion entry on three different days of the week. See the Discussion Rubric found in the Course Information area. It is the leading cause of death in the ages 15-45 and has the greatest affect on the poverty stricken regions. Several risk factors for TB are HIV, lack of knowledge, urban congestion and pollution, barriers in health care, and cultural differences. TB causes large economic losses, financial burdens to poor families, losses in education, and even familial rejection of infected women. To address TB we must promote DOT in the poorest sectors to improve knowledge and treatment, ensure efficient technology for diagnosis, and target HIV prevalent areas for proper treatment for co-infected patients.

I need a one page write a mini-review answer for each of these questions double spaced. 1. The development of primary and secondary immune responses to an antigen differs significantly. The primary response may take a week or more to develop fully and establish memory. The secondary response is rapid and relies on the activation of clones of memory cells. Would it not be better if clones of reactive cells were maintained regardless of prior exposure? In this way, the body could always respond rapidly to any antigen exposure. Would there be any disadvantages to this approach? Why? 2. Jack and Jill were badly burned in an accident at the well and both were taken to the burn unit of the local hospital. The burns covered only a small area of skin so grafts were prepared for both patients from the skin of Jack’s thigh. Jack’s graft was successful and his burn healed completely. Jill, however, rejected the grafted skin. Explain the immune responses of both patients to these grafts. What treatments could have helped Jill to avoid rejection of her graft? 3. The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation. Please search the information from internet or literature and write a summary for each scientist’s major discovery for them to receive the Nobel Prize on medicine in 2018. How did their discovery contribute to cancer treatment? 4. What is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? How does COVID-19 spread and how can we prevent COVID-19? * Using the preliminary work done in your research journals, write a project proposal for your TA’s and lecturer’s approval. Your proposal must contain the sections below, with headings to label each one. While your audience is your instructors who are familiar with the course, you should still be sure to thoroughly and clearly explain your research process and project. * * Introduction of Research Question + Audience Analysis (aim for roughly 300 words): Open this section with a revised version of the research question you submitted in Week 4. Devote the rest of this section to explaining why this question is significant, by answering the following questions: * How will this research question help you address an issue that needs to be considered, especially as society rebuilds post-pandemic? How will this question help you come up with a particular action/solution/intervention to take with your peers to address this issue when we all return to campus? * How will this research question help you get the information you’ll need to pose an effective call to action to your peers? In other words, how will answering this research question help you get your peers to join you? What common knowledge, values, or ideological frameworks will it help you establish with your peers? * * Research Plan (aim for roughly 300 words): This section will explain your plan for answering your research question. * Identify what you don’t know yet. Answer these questions: What are the gaps in your knowledge, and how will you fill those gaps? Which of the following will you do to fill those gaps: more library research, experimentation, participatory observation at a synchronous UCSD source, or some other research activities? * Propose a detailed timeline for yourself for the last five weeks of the quarter so that you can complete the research project by its due date. What will you complete, and by when? You must note in this timeline what synchronous UCSD source you are planning to attend before the week 8 deadline to submit your annotated bibliographic entry for this specific source. * * * Annotated Bibliography (aim for roughly 500 words): For the last section of your proposal, include two annotated bibliographic entries (about 250 words per source), in APA format, to show the research you have done thus far. One entry should be for any DOC course text (assigned or suggested from any quarter) that helps you answer your research question. The remaining entry should be for an outside source you have found through library database searches. Remember to consult our library guide on how to structure annotated bibliographic entries (https://ucsd(dot)libguides(dot)com/DOC3/annotatedbib). Each annotation should include a critical summary of the source’s argument (in your own words), an evaluation of the usefulness of the source in helping you answer your research question, and a description of how you plan to utilize the source in your final research project. * NOTE ON SOURCE USE IN THE PROPOSAL: You may reference sources in your project proposal that are not included in your annotated bibliography as long as you fully utilize APA citation requirements and list the sources on a separate References page at the end of your proposal.

CREATIVE BRIEF Assignment Client: Date: Assignment: Client Signed By: Briefed By (your names here): Due: PROJECT DESCRIPTION /1 This project should showcase the new slogan of Pepsi – Dare for More. It must have a strong impact to its viewers through the use of visual elements and a catchy storyline that would leave a sort of an emotional aftertaste to the viewers. In line with the current day issues, it must include the use of actresses as the protagonists, while also showing Pepsi in strategic focal points. WHAT ARE THE COMMUNCIATIONS OBJECTIVES? (Behaviour you’re trying to change) at least 2 /4 This video should show difference from the norm as envisioned in Pepsi’s slogan. This effect could be measured by the reactions of the people about the advertisement itself relative to the advertisements of our competitors. Based on the reactions of the audience to this difference, the brand could change its packaging to entice more customers. Additionally, this is relevant because of the strength of the competitors in establishing a strong brand identity. Lastly, this experiment would be done for this quarter. Another objective of the video is to show its concern for the current issues in society. The perceptions of the people towards this corporate social concern (i.e., current issues in feminism) could be measured through surveys (Bunting, 2004). By doing this, the company could also leverage helping others while also increasing its brand recognition relative to others. The observation for the results of this experiment would be done within a month. WHO IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE? /4 The target audience would be the youth who are residing in the urban areas. In terms of geographic segmentation, the advertisement would target those in the cities that has access to both the advertisement as well as the product itself. This would optimize the effectivity of the advertisement in communicating its message. As for demographic segmentation, it would focus on the youth. The primary reason for this is because people of old ae would have many dietary restrictions, and this allows soda. Thus, in order to increase the effectivity of the commercial, we would focus more on the said population. In terms of behavioral segmentation, it would be best to direct the advertisements towards both who already knows Pepsi as well as those who don’t. However, focusing on those who don’t would also be effective as it would help increase its consumer base (Trott, 2016). In terms of psychographic segmentation, focusing on the youth would be advantageous because of the trend these days to “think differently”. In turn, through the consumption of the product, this message would be emphasized. WHAT IS THE CONSUMER INSIGHT? /2 “I think that these days, doing things ‘differently’ also refers to the company’s focus towards giving back to the society. This is what a strong brand means. A brand that resonates with the issues happening around them”. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT WE ARE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE? /2 The benefit that we are trying to communicate is the chance to be “different” and the idea to achieve more WHAT CAN WE OFFER AS SUPPORT FOR THIS? /1 In order to realize this project, Pepsi would offer all of the support that it could provide as long as it is within the scope of the conditions and agreements provided thereof. This includes financial, logistics, and informational support among others. WHAT IS THE BRAND’S CREATIVE STRATEGY/CAMPAIGN THEME? Campaign Theme /1 The main campaign theme would revolve around Pepsi’s current slogan “Dare for More” *Appeal Technique(s) /2 In order to increase the appeal of the advertisement, we would include general issues these days and incorporate it to the overall theme of the advertisement. *Creative Tactic(s) /2 We would also include throngs of people singing in the background in unison. The song must be one that would elicit a strong emotional appeal. WHAT’S REQUIRED / MANDATORIES/ EXECUTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS? /2 This video must put into focus Pepsi’s slogan, have a relevance to current day issues, and have a strong emotional appeal to all the viewers.
