Understanding the relationship between politics and healthcare legislation is essential for anyone. It allows the public to determine how their electoral votes can affect the quality and quantity of healthcare services provided by the state. Accordingly, one of the persistent politically affected healthcare issues is the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. This is a push on contending political parties regarding the belief that there is a need to add or modify the existing healthcare program to prioritize different results that favor their other healthcare programs (Cohn, 2020). For example,

it was noted that the Republicans wanted to repeal the ACA to provide a more inclusive healthcare insurance coverage for everyone while removing some of the coverage conditions for younger and healthier Americans (Aaron, 2017). However, this also creates a broader disparity in healthcare coverage between generations.

James Lee Hymes (1913-1998), an American “psychologist-educator” in his own words, wrote: “Play for young children is not recreation activity. It is not leisure-time activity nor escape activity. Play is thinking time for young children. It is language time. Problem-solving time. It is memory time, planning time, investigating time. It is organization-of-ideas time, when the young child uses his mind and body and his social skills and all his powers in response to the stimuli he has met.” To what extent can we relate this quotation to second language acquisition/ learning? Why does Coser believe that conflict is good for society? Discuss a real-life example in which a social conflict followed and lent support to Coser’s theory. Discuss a real-life example of the Thomas Theorem: “If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences.” What does this mean to you? How can it be applied to the example you’ve identified? “Conflict theory” derives from the critical work of Karl Marx on economic inequality under capitalism; Coser’s analysis comes from structural-functionalism. How might social conflict be understood using symbolic interactionism? Come up with and discuss an application of this theory to the question of conflict.

This week you will begin work on your final project. Your final project will be counted as your final exam and will consist of preparing a Global Business Plan. A link to the outline is provided below: This class strives to provide you with papers/projects that relate to real-world expectations. You will first choose a product or service (not both) and one country. This plan is specifically written for one product or service and one country – no comparison or contrasting! After you have read the guidelines, write a few paragraphs which summarize your final project idea. Submit this by the normal time on Monday but earlier would be better! Please contact me if you have any questions regarding a product/service and/or a country of choice. Take Note: for this assignment, you need to select a topic and country selection. This is for a new market entry, for a product or service, that does not yet exist in that market. This is not research of an existing product. iPhone already exists in the US and globally(WRONG). The country selection should be a country you are not familiar. Also, the product/service you select should ultimately meet the needs of the consumers in that market. If you would like to select the iPhone 12 PRO, I need you to select and profile a country where it does not yet exist.

As Covid-19 cases increase, new restrictions have been put in place in Los Angeles County. On Sunday, November 22, it was announced that outdoor dining would no longer be allowed in Los Angeles County for at least three weeks. On Friday the 27th, the day after Thanksgiving, L.A. County announced a new stay-at-home order which prohibits all private and public gatherings which include people from multiple households, except for religious gatherings and political protests, and also puts additional occupancy limits on businesses. From the LA Times: • Officials have warned that even more strict rules — perhaps a more formal stay-at-home order — are likely if L.A. can’t begin to bend the curve on this third wave. • Two months ago, officials estimated that 1 in 880 L.A. County residents were infected with the coronavirus; now, they believe it’s 1 in 145 and climbing, meaning the activities that people once enjoyed safely now pose more risk. • Public health officials on Saturday reported 3,143 new cases of the virus and 19 deaths but said that the numbers were low because no community testing was offered on Thanksgiving, and only limited testing was performed the day after. Nonetheless, officials said, the proportion of tests coming back positive doubled over the last two weeks, reaching 7.4%. • Even though she works outside at a kiosk — just outside Skechers — Anabel Velazquez worries about the health risk. She says people take offense when she reminds them to wear a mask or wear it properly — which is ironic because she sells masks and was herself sporting one with a Playboy logo. From The Guardian: • Restaurants across the state have also invested significant resources in setting up outdoor dining, which has added to the frustration with the shutdown. Guerrilla Tacos spent roughly $27,000 to create an outdoor space and has been selling out reservations, making a slim profit. • Other LA restaurant owners said they were worried this shutdown would force them to permanently close. • Some conservative parts of the state, including Huntington Beach, south of LA, have protested against Newsom’s restrictions, with some urging him to “open California” at a rally after curfew rules went into effect Saturday night. • Newsom recently faced scrutiny after photos emerged of him dining out with other families at French Laundry, one of California’s most expensive and upscale restaurants.
